An All Progressives Congress stalwart, Okoi Obono-Obla, has berated the governors of Akwa Ibom and Delta States, Mr Udom Emmanuel and Ifeanyi Okowa, for alleged betrayal of his colleagues in the South-South region of the country.
He said that the South-South governors had agreed to jointly push for a South-Southerner to emerge as president next year yet the two governors reneged.
In a statement today, Obono-Obla, a former special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, said South-South governors had earlier vowed not to support a northern candidate after the incumbent has finished his 8-year tenure.

“The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel is a betrayer of his colleagues in the Forum of Governors of Southern Nigeria. Similarly, Governor of Delta State and Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is an apostate and betrayer of the cause of the Forum of Governors of Southern Nigeria.
“It is on record that the Governors of Southern Nigeria met and unanimously resolved that they would support irrevocably the return of the presidency of Nigeria to Southern Nigeria after 8 years of the presidency of President Muhammadu Buhari and that on no account would they support the presidency remaining in Northern Nigeria.
“However, treacherously, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa greedily and sheepishly accepted a pot of porridge and a Greek gift from Atiku Abubakar and accepted to be running mate to Atiku Abubakar.”
Obono-Obla said Udom Emmanuel surprisingly broke ranks with his colleagues and is supporting the presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar.
He charged that both governors should bow their heads in shame and ignominy.
“History will be unkind and harsh to their memories as they have behaved and carried on as quislings to a noble cause.
“How can the duo in good conscience work with Atiku Abubakar and PDP National Chairman, Iyochia Ayu?
“Mr Atiku and Dr Ayu have demonstrably shown such despicable contempt, disdain, and scorn to the good people of Southern Nigeria!! ”

Obono-Obla expressed that Atiku Abubakar stepped his foot in Akwa Ibom State, and left without offering an apology for the damage he inflicted on the State when he allegedly sabotaged the fortunes of the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, Ikot Abasi.
“The Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria, a multi-billion industrial complex, that would have economically, and industrially changed the fortunes of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria was fraudulently sold to an undeserving investor when Atiku Abubakar was the Chairman of the National Council on Privatization 17 years ago”.

Federal Capital Territory FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, declared that peace has returned to his home state, Rivers, saying he does not owe anyone an explanation on the terms of the truce.
Wike disclosed this during a Media chat monitored in Abuja.

According to him, several people had turned the crisis in Rivers State into an “oil well”, from which they were drawing illicit funds for their selfish interests, saying such fifth columnists are no longer happy that he has reconciled with the suspended Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike has slammed the anti-Tinubu coalition which on Wednesday took over the structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as a gang of failed and expired politicians.
Taking on the coalition leaders one by one, Wike said they have nothing to offer to Nigerians.
According to him, Senator David Mark wanted to be chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but was resisted and has now gone to take that of the ADC.
He said, “I heard David Mark say they want to rescue Nigeria. That Nigerians are not happy. But the man was Senate President for 8 years, and Nigerians were happy? There was no single project in Otukpo. Not one. He was flying with a helicopter to Otukpo. Nigerians were not angry then, but they are angry now?”

He said Mark, as leader of the PDP in his area, lost elections, as his daughter, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC), won to the House of Representatives.
“Amaechi was minister. He took Chinese loans and made Nigeria so indebted to China. So, Nigerians were happy then?
“When you were in power, Nigerians were happy, but the moment you are no longer in power, Nigerians are no longer happy.
“I saw Sirika. What happened to Air Nigeria? Nigerians were happy then?

“When they went to APC in 2013 and took over power, Nigerians were happy, but no longer happy today?
“Was it under Tinubu’s government that banditry came? What is he doing? To solve the problems he met.
“I read what Malami wrote. It was so shameful. He was AGF. What did he do? What was his contribution to resolving the security challenges?
“Tambuwal was Speaker for four years. What did he do to make Nigerians not be angry? He was governor for eight years. What did he do? What kind of politics are we playing?” he queried.
Wike added that the former sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, only moved to the ADC because he has fallen out with his godfather, Senator Bukola Saraki.
He said the only party today that can still challenge Tinubu is the PDP if they put their house in order.

Coalition: Otti Speaks On Report Of Leaving LP

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has denied rumours suggesting he is planning to defect from the Labour Party to either the All Progressives Congress or the proposed opposition coalition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a dinner in Umuahia on Tuesday to mark the start of the 2025 mid-year retreat for government appointees, Otti reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, insisting he has not attended any coalition meeting and remains focused on delivering his mandate to Abians.
He said, “I will just spend a few minutes talking about what some members of the Global Economic Council have been asking me. One of them is the report about five governors decamping to the APC. I’m still a member of the Labour Party and I’m not looking for where to decamp to.
“The second point is about coalition, and a lot of people have been asking me, are you a member of the coalition? And my response is, have you seen my name? Have you seen me attending the coalition meeting?

“We are just busy doing the work that Abia people have given us. So, we are not attending any coalition meeting, I have not attended any one, and nobody has invited me.
“I am happy where I am. Yes, we had issues. If you don’t have issues, you are dead So, you wake up and there is one problem or the other, you solve the problem. You don’t run away from a problem and pretend to have solved it.”
The governor added that while the party had faced internal challenges, those issues were resolved at the Supreme Court.
Otti also dismissed claims that his administration had been borrowing to run the state, saying Abia has not taken any new loans since he assumed office in May 2023.
Otti said, “There is nothing wrong with criticising the government, but you must criticise with facts. Opinions are free, but facts are sacred.

“Some people have come out to say that we are borrowing; they are lying. Did I borrow from them? I saw a report yesterday that says that 26 out of the 36 states have actually reduced loans in the last 12 months, and Abia came first, having reduced its debt profile by 57.20% in one year.
“So, when we say we have not borrowed, we know what we are talking about. But that we have not borrowed doesn’t mean we will not borrow. We will borrow when we need to borrow. We will borrow for regenerative investments. We will not borrow to eat. We will not borrow to consume. We will borrow for capital expenditure.”
The governor announced that providing potable water is the next major focus of his administration, with projects set to be flagged off in Aba and Umuahia in the coming weeks.
“We want to get to that level where you open your tap and you have public water running. In the next few weeks, we are going to flag off the water project in Aba around CKC. There is also another one in Umuahia and a lot of other places. We will get there,” the governor added.

He said a new Project Implementation Bureau has been established, headed by Onyinye Nwosu, a former General Electric employee in Canada who returned to contribute to Abia’s development.
The event also marked the first anniversary of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council, a 20-member team of professionals guiding the state’s development strategy.
Earlier in her speech on behalf of the Council, the Co-Chair of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council, Prof. Ms. Arunma Oteh, said that it was a pleasure to serve in the Economic Advisory Council.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, thanked the members of the Council for their sacrifices to help the administration succeed.
Some members of the Council present during the event were Prof. Ms Arunma Oteh – Co-Chair, Mrs Ifueko Okauru – Chair, M&E Committee, Mr Victor Onyenkpa – Chair, Financing/roadshow Committee, Mrs Ezinwa Okoroafor – Member, Mr Chidi Ajaegbu – Member, and Dr Olugbenda Adesida – Member, including members of the State Executive Council and political appointees.
