2024 Poll: After Much Calls, Pressure, I’ve Obliged To Serve Edo People – Catholic Priest

Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan of St. Francis Catholic Church, Benin, has said that after much calls and pressure from well meaning Edo people and Nigerians, he has obliged to the calls and ready to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Fr. Obinyan disclosed this on Monday when he paid a visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, Benin.
The Catholic Priest said being a trained priest, he is well equipped to serve the good people of Edo.

His words: “I received series of calls from well meaning Edo people and Nigerians across party lines beckoning on me to contest the forthcoming governoship election in our dear state. After very extensive consultation and consideration, I am please to inform you that I am giving Edo people and members of the movement an affirmative nod.
“And that means I have considered it, and I am very much available and ready to serve.
“As a priest, I am trained and equipped to serve and not to be served,” Fr. Obinyan added.
The Rev. Fr is, however, yet to disclose the political party on which he wants to run the govenorship race.

Also speaking, Jude Aigbona, Lead, Rev. Fr. Obinyan Movement, said after being governed by politicans and technocrats, Edo people should give the priest a chance to govern the state, adding that Rev. Fr. Obinyan is a tested and trusted servant.
While noting that the youths in Edo plan to embark on a mass movement for the Rev. Fr., he said with the Catholic Priest, Edo State will experience a total turn around like a new creature.
Calling on the “big political parties” to nominate the Rev. Fr. as their governoship candidate, Aigbona said: “We intend to run a mass movement, a movement that will reshape Edo State; a movement that will give us a new hope in Edo State.
“Edo had seen it all. We have seen technocrats rule us, we have seen politicans rule us, so let’s us try man of God. A man who is ready to serve us wholeheartedly so that Edo will be a new state; a new creature that other states will want to emulate.”
On his part, another member of the movement, Basil Ogwu, said: “This movement cuts across all party lines. We didn’t just come up just to support him, but after much consultation, we discovered that he is credible. We have tried different kinds of people, but this time around, we want to give it to a religious leader.”

Soludo Visits Tinubu, Goes Into Closed Door Session With President

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Thursday, paid a courtesy visit to the President, Bola Tinubu, GCFR at the State House.
Report by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Mr Chris Aburime stated that President Tinubu received the Anambra State Governor with excitement, describing him as his long standing friend of over 22 years.
Aburime said, “The President used the occasion to further congratulate Governor Soludo on his landslide victory in the just concluded Anambra gubernatorial election.

“Recall that President Tinubu had earlier issued a congratulatory message to Governor Soludo immediately the governorship election was concluded.”
Governor Soludo was declared winner with 73% of the votes cast by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Other details of the meeting were, however, not disclosed as the press Secretary told DAILY POST that both men went into a closed door meeting after the reception.

2027: I Will Resign If Tinubu Loses In Edo – Governor Okpebholo

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholor has vowed that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election in Edo State.
Okpebholor in an interview captured in a viral video vowed to resign if the outcome of the 2027 election does not favour the president in Edo State.
According to him, the entire people in Edo State are ready to vote for the president, citing projects that his (Okpebholor) administration executed since the All Progressives Congress, APC took over the state.

He claimed that there is no opposition in the state, stressing that everyone is supporting the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said, “There is no opposition here in Edo everybody is for Asiwaju in this state.
“Tinubu is more popular than me in Edo state. If he doesn’t win the presidential election in Edo in 2027, I will resign.”

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, left the party earlier this year for the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
