2025 CAF Awards: Osimhen Loses As Hakimi Is Crowned Player Of The Year

Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain has been crowned the 2025 Player of the Year by the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
The 27-year-old won the prize ahead of Victor Osimhen (Nigeria, Galatasaray) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt, Liverpool).

Hakimi replaces Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman as the best player on the continent.
The defender had finished in second place for two consecutive years.

EPL: Alan Smith Names Only Two Clubs To Compete For Title

Former Arsenal striker, Alan Smith has named the only two clubs to compete for the Premier League title this season.
According to Smith, Arsenal and Manchester City are the two teams that will challenge for the English top-flight league title, adding that it is a ‘two-horse race’.
Arsenal are currently on top of the Premier League table ahead of second-placed Man City.
Four points presently separate both teams after eleven Premier League matches.

“I thought it would be difficult to make firm conclusions if the match between Man City and Liverpool was close,” Smith told Metro.
“But City were so much better and superior that now you’re looking at Liverpool and doubting they have enough for the title challenge.
“Arsenal and Man City, it will be a two-horse race between those two. It is going to be fascinating to see how that develops.”

Transfer: No Need For Osimhen To Quit Galatasaray – Gardi

George Gardi, the agent, who brokered Victor Osimhen’s transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray has said the striker is happy at the club.
Osimhen spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Galatasaray before joining the Turkish Super Lig champions on a permanent transfer this summer.
The Nigeria international has recently been linked with top clubs like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Gardi however said the striker is not thinking of leaving Turkey at the moment.

“Victor signed for a project, and it’s not just for a season,” Gardi told Sky Sports Germany.
“He’s happy in Istanbul, he’s on a great salary, he’s loved by millions of fans, the team is competitive in the champions League, and he’s playing great. Why change?”
Osimhen helped Galatasaray win a domestic double last season.
The 26-year-old has scored nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for the Yellow and Reds this season.

Former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba, has given reasons Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi, had to be named the 2025 CAF 2025 Player of the Year Award ahead of Victor Osimhen.
Ikpeba believes that the Moroccan deserves the award following his exploits with Paris Saint-Germain last season.
The 27-year-old right-back won the Champions League, the Ligue1 and every available trophy, except for the FIFA Club World Cup, with PSG.

The Moroccan beat Osimhen and Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah to win the most coveted individual award in African football.

Osimhen was nominated after he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances for Galatasaray, helping them win a domestic double.
Ikpeba believes Hakimi deserved to be crowned for his efforts in treble-winning PSG.

“We are disappointed we are not going to the World Cup but Victor has been outstanding with his passion and determination when he plays for the national team with no limits,” Ikpeba said.
“For the three players, I think Hakimi has been brilliant, won the Ligue 1, the Champions League, and he won everything with PSG.
“But I think for the beauty of the football, he is a deserving winner.”
