2800 Expected For 5th Edo Heritage Sports Festival, Carnival

The organisers of the Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival says no fewer than 2800 participants are expected for the 5th edition of the events scheduled for November in Benin.

Mrs Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Heritage and Sports Colony International announced this during a news conference on Wednesday.

Adeyinka-Afolabi said the event, which was a blend of culture, sports and entertainment was meant to make society better.

Through the platform, she said 1000 people would acquire vocational training for free.

The training, which is in partnership with the EdoJob Centre, will be in the areas of bag making, pastry and cookies, and gele and okuku making among Others.

Sports, which is at the core centre of the event will draw participants from the grassroots.

“The sports segment will feature events such chess, rugby, dart, athletics , traditional wrestling and netball, taekwondo, karate and football,” said the chief executive officer.

Adeyinka-Afolabi further said the event was targeted at promoting sports and culture at the grassroot.

It will also feature beauty pageant contest and the prizes for the category has been worked out.

“The first position will go home with N100,000 while first and second runners up will amass N50,000 and N30,000 respectively,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of a partnering sponsor, Edema Fuludu of Community Sports and Education Development Initiative said the interest in the girl child caught the attention of the initiative.

Fuludu, an ex-Nigerian International said sports and education were important as they serve as tools for economic development.

The actor announced the loss through a post on his Instagram page on Saturday.

Posting a picture of the late boy, he captioned, “Inna liLlahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun.

Also reacting, “Jamiu Azeez commented, “Haaaaaa God pls have mercy on us 00 dadad this is too much o.”

However, it could not be confirmed whether the deceased is his biological son or relative as of the time of filing this report.

The news comes just days after veteran actress Peju Ogunmola lost her only child, Ayomikun, an incident that also left the entertainment industry in grief.

Femi made the disclosure during his recent appearance on Afropolitan podcast.

Speaking about his decision to part ways with Fela’s music band, Femi Kuti disclosed that he left to discover his own identity because “I did not have any possibility of my life”.

“If I wanted to play music, I had to be Femi Kuti. I used the same mathematical thought that I cannot be Fela. I began to wear the same outfits with my father because I used to stay with my mother before I ran away to stay with him.

“I was like mini Fela because he usually dresses me like himself. I just thought I should better look for myself fast, or I’m going to be a very unhappy man. So I went back to my mother.

“The moment I formed my band, his fan base descended on me. It was very difficult to find a good write up about me then because the press hated me and at this time, there was no internet for me to defend myself.
