290 Witnesses Expected At Edo Election Tribuna, As Sitting adjourned

No fewer than 290 witnesses are expected to testify for and against the outcome of the September 21 Edo governorship election which produced Senator Monday Okpebholo.
This revelation of the number of expected witnesses was made known at the sitting of 2024 Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Saturday.
Reading the adopted pre-hearing report, chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, said the parties agreed to call a total of 290 witnesses.

He said the report outlined the timeframe for the examination of witnesses, with 40 minutes allocated for examination-in-chief for each star witness, 30 minutes for cross-examination by the petitioners, and 20 minutes for cross-examination by each respondent.
Other agreements reached by the parties, according to him, include the allocation of 10 minutes for re-examination of each star witness and 25 minutes for examination-in-chief for other witnesses.
The petitioners are expected to call their witnesses within 21 days or less, while respondents will have 10 days each to call their witnesses.
According to the report, the tribunal will sit daily from 10 a.m., except on Sundays and other public holidays gazetted by law.

Justice Kpochi said there shall be no consolidation of the petition with any other as there was no application in respect thereof.
He added that no amendment of such shall be entertained and that the parties agreed to call only witnesses whose statements on oath had been frontloaded and may call subpoenaed witnesses where necessary.
He adjourned the hearing to January 13, 2025, following the adoption of the pre-hearing report.
Asue Ighodalo, the PDP and other parties are challenging the declaration of Okpebholo as the winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to Zambia Daily Mail, she said all was well until 2021 when her husband bought a car after he went to do some work outside the country.
“He started coming back home late and sometimes he would come the next day around 14:00 hours.

A Sharia Court in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has dissolved a two-year-old marriage between a couple, Harira Sanusi and Aliyu Yunusa.
The judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta dissolved their marriage following a petition for divorce filed by Harira.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Harira accused Aliyu of calling her parents names and humiliating her.
“He will often throw out my suitcases and other belongings.

“He seized my wedding gifts and humiliates me,” she said.
She prayed the court to order Aliyu to allow her access to her belongings.
On his part, Aliyu who did not deny the allegations apologized to her in court.
Aliyu granted the request of Sanusi and made one pronouncement of divorce to her.

A housewife, Lawal Modupe, has approached an Upper Area Court sitting at Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking the dissolution of her 17-year-old marriage to her husband, Ismaila on the grounds of lack of love and affection.
Modupe told the court that she got married Ismaila according to Islamic laws.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the mother of three stated that her husband sent her out of their matrimonial home on June 17, 2023.

“I do not love him anymore and I want the court to dissolve our marriage,” she said.
The respondent, however, said that he still loves his wife and would not grant her request for divorce.
