37-year-old Man Flee Delta Community After Raping 10-year-old Girl

A 37-year-old man popularly known as “2 minutes” is on the run, breaking through burglary proofs after allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl (name withheld) in her grandfather’s Compound, at Ovwor-Olomu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspect, an indigene of the Oteri Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State who hibernates in Ovwor has fled the town after being apprehended by local Vigilantees.

According to the victim’s father, the ugly incident occurred on Sunday.

It was learnt that the suspect who is now at large escaped from the Community’s town hall where he was taken in on Sunday night of May 28.

In a telephone chat with Our Correspondent, the father of the victim, Chief Joseph Aphia, President General of Urhobo Orators confirmed the report.

Aphia said, his wife noticed that the girl was having difficulty walking and asked what the problem was.

That there were sperm stains on the daughter’s pants when she went to the bathroom.

According to him, by the time his wife demanded to know why sperm stained her pant, his daughter opened up and claimed that the suspect, ‘2 Minutes’ allegedly raped her in one of the rooms in his own father’s compound.

“By this time, I wasn’t around. My wife called me on the phone and informed me of the incident but I asked them to keep calm so that the victim does not run away.

“By the time I returned, I called the vigilante and arrested him (suspect) to the residence of the Spokesman (Otota) of the Community that Sunday evening.

“The Otota interrogated my daughter and the suspect who confessed that he committed the offence. He said it’s the handwork of the devil and that he doesn’t know what came over him.

“The Otota ordered that he be flogged and taken to the town hall until his people come to take him but if they don’t come, he should be handed over to the police.

“At the break of day which is Monday, May 29, the suspect had broken the burglary proof in the Community’s town hall and had escaped. So, I quickly reported the matter at the Police Station in Otu-Jeremi Division.”

Aphia narrated that the incident has brought so much pain to his family as the daughter has been admitted and several tests conducted on the daughter.

In an emotionally saddened voice, the victim’s father said, “I will fight this case to any length because this man has come to destroy my daughter.”

The victim was said to be in stable condition at press time.

Contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said there’s no rapist arrested at the station to his knowledge but acknowledge that the matter has been reported and investigation is on.

NAF Kills Several Terrorists In Borno, Niger Airstrikes

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the Air Components of Operations Hadin Kai and Whirl Punch in the North East and North Central killed several terrorists in airstrikes in Borno and Niger.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, AVM Edward Gabkwet, on Sunday in Abuja.

Gabkwet said the air components had continued to obliterate terrorists and destroy their structures, equipment and mobility, thereby limiting their ability to attack ground troops and innocent Nigerians at will.

In the North East he said the air interdiction was on May 3 authourised and conducted over Chinene, a location tucked inside the Mandara mountain.

Terrorists had been observed to be emanating from various locations and assembling ostensibly for a meeting.

According to him, seven gun trucks were also observed parked under trees within the same location.

Gabkwet said the aircraft bombarded the assembly area and tree coverings and destroyed their weapons and mobility.

He said that Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the strikes were successful as several terrorists were neutralised and logistics destroyed.

According to him, similar airstrikes were conducted same day by the air component of Operation Whirl Punch in a pre-emptive air strikes over terrorists hibernating at Allawa village, near Shiroro town in Niger.

The NAF spokesman said the mission was conducted following credible intelligence which revealed the migration of terrorists into the village after the mass exit of locals for fear of their safety.

He said the terrorists had, on May 1, stormed the deserted Allawa community in Shiroro Local Government Area and torched the Central Primary School.

“In the evening of the same day, another group of terrorists also arrived at the location, wielding AK-47/49 rifles after invading Galapai village in Galadima Kogo District of Shiroro.

“Accordingly, to prevent further occupation as well as pursue the terrorists from the location, the air component scrambled a formation of its platforms to attack the location.

“On arrival at the location, several terrorists were sighted and engaged effectively.

“Furthermore, following credible intelligence as well as detailed aerial observation, which confirmed the presence of their cache of arms hidden inside Allawa Forest, the air component further carried out air strikes at the location,” Vanguard quoted him saying.

Gabkwet also said that the NAF carried out air strikes North of Arugbana and Temakiri in the Niger Delta, where illegal refining sites were observed and destroyed.

According to him, through this action, the capabilities of oil thieves to continually sabotage and destroy oil pipelines were minimised.

VIDEO: Hundreds Of Abandoned Ikoyi Towers Illegal Occupants Get 48-hour Eviction Notice

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has issued a 48-hour eviction notice to illegal occupants of the Ikoyi Towers in the Lagos Island area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this during an inspection of the estate on Saturday.

In a post on X.com, Wahab stated that hundreds of undocumented residents were seen in the premises, which lacked sanitary provisions.

He added that they pose security and environmental threats to the state, hence the eviction notice.

Wahab wrote, “Abandoned Ikoyi Towers which we observed were housing illegal occupants posing a security threat to the environment and a nuisance to the state.

“An undocumented number of persons running into hundreds were seen on the premises with no sanitary provisions and whose daily activities could not be ascertained.

“They have been given a 48-hour vacation notice to leave the area.”

The commissioner further stated that the team also conducted an inspection to assess the enforcement of Osborne under bridge after the illegal structures harbouring several people were removed.”

Recall that  on Wednesday that the state government discovered 86 partitioned rooms under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants were said to be paying N250,000 per annum for the makeshift apartment.

5-year-old Girl Allegedly Defiled, Mother Demands Justice

A woman, Rita Ebirim, has demanded justice following the alleged defilement of her five-year-old daughter by her brother-in-law in Lagos.

The distraught mother, who spoke with our correspondent on Friday, explained that her estranged husband had filed a divorce on August 2, 2022, and while waiting for the trial, she was ordered by the court to allow the father to have access to their daughter.

Ebirim explained that her daughter was defiled during her second visit to her father by his brother.

She said, “One day in February last year, he came to pick her up for the first time in the morning and returned her in the evening. That day I sensed that something was wrong with my girl and I voiced my suspicion to my lawyer but he waved it off.

“The next time, he came to take her to visit him and she returned to me at night beyond the speculated time. Later, when I wanted to bathe her, she started crying, pushing my hands away, that I shouldn’t touch her ‘there’.

“When I asked her who touched her there she told me her uncle touched her.

Ebirim said when she called her daughter’s father, he said he didn’t do anything to her and immediately told her to take the girl to the hospital “knowing full well that it was late at night”.

“I took her to two hospitals and after she was examined, the doctors said she had bruises on her private parts, that she had been sexually molested,” she added.

Suspect remanded for allegedly defiling three-year-old daughter
Sunday Special learned that the case was reported to the Ketu police station and also the Lagos State Sexual and Domestic Violence Agency.

“Although the suspect was arrested, he was later released on bail, and up till now, we are still awaiting a hearing in court. The case has needlessly dragged on and it feels that justice is elusive,” Ebirim added.

Giving an update on the case, the Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, in a chat with our correspondent, disclosed that a forensic interview had been conducted for the child and that the case had been referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

She said, “The agency received a report of an alleged case of defilement on February 20, 2023, against one X. It was alleged that Mr O has allegedly abused her sexually during her visit to Mr O.”

Vivour-Adeniyi further said the agency immediately referred the case officially to the Ketu divisional police station on the same day.

“The case was also referred to State CID, Panti, on February 21, 2023, where investigations were conducted with all parties involved. Two officers from the agency were also assigned to support the survivors’ mother at the police station.

“The agency subsequently referred the case to Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre for a forensic interview to be conducted. The forensic interview was successfully conducted in April 2023. The case file was forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice,” she added.
