5 Easy Says To Treat Common Dental Problems At Home

Published

on

Dealing with dental problems can be both uncomfortable and inconvenient, especially if you’re unable to visit a dentist right away. However, many common dental issues can be effectively managed at home with simple remedies and proper care. Here are some easy ways to treat common dental problems and find relief until you can see a dentist.

1. Toothache Relief

Toothaches can be caused by various factors, including tooth decay, gum disease, or dental trauma. To alleviate pain at home, rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to help reduce inflammation and kill bacteria.

Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can also provide temporary relief. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums, as this can lead to burns.

2. Sensitive Teeth
Tooth sensitivity is often characterised by discomfort or pain when consuming hot, cold, or sweet foods and beverages.

Switching to a desensitising toothpaste containing potassium nitrate can help block pain signals and reduce sensitivity over time. Also, avoiding acidic foods and beverages can help prevent further enamel erosion and sensitivity.

3. Gum Inflammation
Gum inflammation, also known as gingivitis, is often caused by poor oral hygiene and can lead to red, swollen, and bleeding gums.

Improve your oral hygiene routine by brushing twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and flossing regularly to remove plaque and bacteria from between your teeth and along the gumline.

4. Canker Sore Treatment
Canker sores are small, painful ulcers that develop on the soft tissues inside the mouth. While they typically heal on their own within a week or two, you can ease discomfort by avoiding spicy and acidic foods that can irritate the sore.

Over-the-counter topical treatments containing benzocaine or hydrogen peroxide can help numb the area and promote healing.

5. Broken or Chipped Tooth
If you experience a broken or chipped tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.

Avoid biting down on the affected tooth and see your dentist as soon as possible for evaluation and treatment options.

Remember, while these home remedies can provide temporary relief for common dental problems, they are not substitutes for professional dental care.

“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” Oshiomhole said.

He argued that while some South Africans accuse Nigerians of taking their jobs, Nigerians should return home and take over employment opportunities created by major South African companies operating in the country, including MTN and DSTV.
