7 Things To Know About Nollywood Soundtrack Icon, Late Onos Brisibi

Gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack icon Onos Brisibi has died at the age of 55.
Her death was announced by veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo in an emotional tribute shared on Instagram. According to him, the singer passed away on March 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
Brisibi was widely known for her powerful voice, which featured in the soundtracks of several classic Nollywood films, including Domitilla and Blood Money.
Here are seven things to know about the late gospel singer and soundtrack icon.

1. She was born in Delta State
Brisibi was born on November 20, 1970, to Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi from Aladja in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
2. She started singing at a young age
Her musical talent emerged early, as she reportedly began singing at the age of nine, gradually building a reputation for her strong vocal ability.
3. She gained recognition during her university days
While studying at Delta State University, Brisibi became widely admired for her performances, where she sang both original songs and covers of international stars such as Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin.
4. She was a notable voice in early Nollywood soundtracks
During the formative years of the Nigerian home video industry, Brisibi contributed to several movie soundtracks, including Domitilla, Blood Money, Dead End, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion and Shame, helping to shape the emotional tone of many films.

5. She also ventured into acting and movie production
Aside from singing, Brisibi explored other aspects of the film industry, including acting and movie production.
6. She collaborated with notable Nigerian musicians
The singer worked with several artists in the Nigerian music industry, including Lagbaja, Daniel Wilson and late gospel singer Sammie Okposo, contributing vocals to different projects.
7. She was a dedicated gospel minister
Brisibi was a devoted Christian and active member of Christ Embassy, where she served as a worship leader and supported the church’s music ministry for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, extended family members and her church community.

Grammy Announces Date For 2027 Awards Nominations

The Recording Academy, the organizers of the Grammy Awards, has announced the dates for the 2027 edition of its awards ceremony and nominations.
The organizers revealed the date on Tuesday during an upfront presentation in New York.
Nominations will be announced November 16, 2026, with eligible albums having been released between August 31, 2025, and August 28, 2026.
The Grammy awards ceremony will be held on February 7, 2027.

The ceremony will be aired live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on ABC and will stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
The development is a break from the Grammy’s 54 consecutive years partnership with CBS.
Also announcing the news on its Instagram page, Grammy, wrote: “IT’S TIIIIIME! The road to the 2027 Grammys officially begins now. Mark your calendars for submissions, nominations, voting, and all the key moments leading up to Music’s Biggest Night. Grammy Season.”

BREAKING: Nollywood Actor Alex Ekubo Is Dead

Famous Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, is dead.
A Nollywood source, who does not wish to be named, informed DAILY POST that Alex was rushed to the hospital on Monday.
The source said the actor had been battling kidney cancer
The actor passed away on Tuesday afternoon after spending hours on life support.

Alex was rumoured to be suffering from serious health issues in May 2025 after months of social media disappearance.
A check confirmed that Ekubo’s last social media post was on December 30, 2024.

Nigerian record producer and music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has named alternative rock singer Johnny Drille as his best musician.
The Mavin boss said Johnny Drille’s music is unique, stressing that he is a complete musician.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy claimed that Johnny Drille has no rival in the Nigerian music industry.
