8 Dead, 4 Others Injured In Bauchi Auto Crash -FRSC

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi, Yusuf Abdullahi, says no fewer than eight persons lost their lives in a second road crash recorded on Thursday in the state.

Abdullahi confirmed the incident to the journalists on Friday in Bauchi.

The accident occured barely 11 hours after seven persons lost their lives and two others injured in a ghastly auto crash on Bauchi-Jos Road.

Abdullahi said that four other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident which occurred in Kafin Liman village along Bauchi-Kano Road around 11:30 p.m.

He said the accident involved an articulated vehicle with registration number KMC95YU, a Galaxy Ford bus with plate number NNG21MG and an Opel Vectra car marked BAU490AA.

The Commander said that the personnel of the Corps cleared the accident scene and attributed the accident to road obstruction and over speeding.

“Twelve persons were involved in the crash comprising nine male adults and three female adults.

“Eight died on the spot, they included five males and three females.

“Four males sustained serious degrees of injuries.

“The truck broke down and not properly parked which is an obstruction on the road and the other vehicles ran into it due to recklessness,” he said.

He said the injured persons had been referred to the Kafin Madaki General Hospital for treatment while the corpses were deposited at the morgue in the same facility.

The Commander advised motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations to check road carnage in the state.

Mob Burns Two Suspected Motorcycles Snatchers To Death In Benue

Two men who allegedly snatched a motorcycle and were attempting to rob their victims were burnt to death by a mob in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident took place at about 12 to 1 am on Friday, in the Nyon area, a suburb of Makurdi.

A witness account said the suspects were apprehended and lynched after a commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada man raised alarm while the two suspects were struggling to rob him of the Okada.

A witness who identified himself simply as Terna narrated that according to the Okada man, he picked both passengers from Katsina Ala street in the High-Level area of Makurdi town heading to Nyon.

He said “They told me to bring them to Nyon, a suburb in Makurdi. On getting there, they directed me into a street which I followed.

“But because it was too late when he got to a point, the okada man told his passengers to pay him so he could get back but they insisted they don’t have money on them and that they will get the money when they get to his house.

“While he made to leave, they grabbed him and requested that he give them his motorcycle key. When he refused to hand them the keys, they started struggling with him and luck ran out on them when he( okada man) raised an alarm.”

Terna, however, lamented that the incidence of motorcycle snatching has been on the increase in the Makurdi metropolis.

He said community members and especially the youth have also vowed that culprits would not go free when caught in the act.

He further explained that the youth who came out in their numbers gave the suspected bike robbers a good chase and caught them before they could escape.

It was learnt that the youth had beaten the dead suspects to a pulp, before setting them ablaze.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed that she received a report on the incident, saying some officers had been detailed to the community to find out what actually happened.

She, however, reiterated the call on the Benue public to desist from taking laws into their hands and advised them to report such issues and persons to law enforcement agencies for necessary action.

Lagos Seals Church Complex For Environmental Pollution

Following a public complaint received from concerned residents, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Jesus Sanctuary, Masha, Surulere, Lagos for indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed this through his X handle on Saturday.

The statement read, “Following a public complaint received from concerned residents, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office #lswmomedia in enforcing the provisions of the Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017, sealed off the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary, Masha, Surulere, Lagos for indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

“Illegal discharge of wastewater into the environment endangers the lives of citizens as it leads to soil pollution and groundwater contamination; causing waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhoea.

Five-year-old boy Dies After Falling From Fence In Lagos

A five-year-old boy identified simply as David has been confirmed dead after falling from a fence in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The PUNCH learnt that the incident happened on Friday.

It was gathered that the deceased was playing with other children in the community when he climbed the fence and sat on it.

While playing with his colleagues, the late David lost his balance and fell to the ground.

His friends who discovered that he was unconscious, immediately alerted a neighbour who rushed to the scene.

He was, thereafter, taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

He said, “A man reported at Igando Division that at about 5 pm, his son, David aged 5, fell from the fence while playing with other children. He was rushed to General Hospital Igando by a neighbour, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“The scene of the incident was visited by officers of the division while the corpse has been moved to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, for autopsy. An investigation is in progress.”
