Jay Jay Okocha has said that Nigeria did not miss Samuel Chukwueze after the winger was substituted for Chidera Ejuke in their first game against Egypt on Tuesday.
Nigeria beat the Pharaohs 1-0 in the Group D opening match in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s 30th minute volley.
According to Okocha, a former Super Eagles captain, Ejuke made an impact in the game, to the level that the absence of Chukwueze on the pitch was not felt.
“The good thing about the Nigeria team is that we don’t rely only on one player,” Okocha told Super Sports.
“We’ve got good attacking options, you can see the substitute Ejuke coming in making Chukwueze as if he was not there, we didn’t miss him when he got substituted because Ejuke realized that he has to fill in those shoes and do what is required from him.
“If he had been a bit more experienced, a bit more clever in front of the goal I think he could have gotten a goal.”
Nigeria Vs Tunisia: What Eguavoen Told Buhari During Video Conference With Super Eagles
Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has assured Nigerians of victory against Tunisia, in the round of sixteen match.
Eguavoen gave the assurance while responding to President Muhammadu Buhari during a video conference with the Super Eagles.
He assured Buhari that the Super Eagles won’t let the nation down.
Nigeria will face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at 8pm in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.
During the call, Buhari has charged the Super Eagles to keep flying at the biennial tournament.
Responding, Eguavoen said: “We are so excited that His Excellency, President Buhari, has come to speak with us this morning. On behalf of the players and the technical crew, I want to say thank you very much sir.
“The group stage has passed, and your speaking to us is a morale booster. Thank you for your support, Mr President. We are so privileged, and want to promise that you should just relax, we’ll come out victorious. We won’t let the nation down.”
Nigeria Vs Tunisia: CAF Appoints Controversial Referee For AFCON 2021 Clash
Controversial Senegalese referee, Maguette N’Diaye, has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to handle Sunday’s Round of 16 clash between Nigeria and Tunisia at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Maguette was allegedly dubious in his handling and subsequent awarding of a penalty during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Ghana and South Africa.
His overall controversial performance in that game, resulted in SAFA lodging a complaint with FIFA, demanding for a replay of the match.
They claimed the game had been manipulated, but their request was later discarded by FIFA.
Interestingly, Maguette is among six referees from Africa, who are expected to officiate at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Maguette regularly handles continental club matches in the Champions League, Confederation Cup and oversaw the 2020 CAF Super Cup.
AFCON 2021: Tunisia Are Like The British Weather, Amokachi Warns Super Eagles
Former Super Eagles defender, Daniel Amokachi, has warned the team that Tunisia is like the British weather
Amokachi, who is married to a Tunisian woman, said in a viral video that the Carthage Eagles blow hot and cold.
He however advised Augustine Eguavoen’s men to take each game as it comes.
“We are soaring to the finals, but one day at a time.
“We know the game will be tricky.
“Tunisia is like the British weather, today they are shitty, the next second, they are flying. So we have to win it,” Amokachi said in a video posted on social media.
Kick-off for the match is 8pm WAT.
