Amotekun Thwarts Five Kidnap Attempts, Rescues Nine Kidnap Victims In Ondo

The Ondo State Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corpssays it foiled five kidnap attempts and rescued nine kidnapped victims across the state within one week.

The state Commander of Amotekun Corps, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Friday in Akure while parading 20 suspected criminals arrested for crimes like cultism, house breaking, and motorcycle theft, among others.

Adeleye, who said that the arrests were made within a week under review through the Amotekun Rangers, reiterated the corps commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.

According to him, the rangers had been active in combing the forests across the state, particularly in known flashpoints, to keep kidnappers at bay.

He added that the suspected kidnapper, 28-year-old Usman Abubakar, who was arrested in Igbo Oba, Owo, confirmed collecting N2 million from a victim.

“Abubakar told us how they shared the N2 million, and he also told us how to get to the root of their godfathers.

“The Amotekun Rangers launched by Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State had, recently, penetrated the forest substantially within the week under review.

“We were able to resist five kidnapping attempts and we were also able to rescue nine victims. That is to say that the kidnap attempts failed.

“Moreover, the notorious portion of Elegbeka area has been bombarded, and we are glad to say that the Amotekun Rangers had infiltrated the entire forest to guarantee safety of commuters,” he said.

The Amotekun commander, therefore, reassured the public that the rangers would continue to infiltrate the entire forest to ensure the safety of commuters and safeguard lives and properties.

Delta: Father In Police Net After Sleeping With Daughters For Seven Years

A 54-year-old father in Asaba, Delta State, Edward Odega, has confessed to defiling his three children.

Odega, who has been arrested by the police, disclosed that he had been sleeping with his children for the past seven years.

In a short interview with our correspondent at the police headquarters in Asaba on Saturday, Odega said, “I have three daughters, and I started sleeping with my first daughter when she was 12 years old.”

He also admitted to sleeping with two others who are 13 and 15, respectively for the same period of time.

The spokesperson for the police, Bright Edafe, said one of Odega’s daughters informed the police about the incident.

He said, “The command has arrested a father who had been defiling his three daughters for the past seven years. The three children are now aged 13, 15, and 24.

“The act was made public after DPO Ogborikoko division CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, who went on a school outreach on enlightenment, encountered a child who spoke up, which eventually led to the arrest of the father.”

Edafe said that the three children are currently at the hospital undergoing medical check-ups.

One Dead, Six Injured In Lagos Bus-tipper Collision

A road traffic collision in Majidun, near Ogolonto, Lagos, has left one person dead and six others injured after a commercial bus collided with a stationary tipper truck.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said preliminary investigations indicated that the Volkswagen commercial bus, bearing registration number EPE 494 XM, suffered a sudden brake failure while travelling at excessive speed. The driver lost control and struck the tipper truck, which had been parked at the roadside to purchase diesel.

The impact resulted in the immediate death of an adult female passenger. Five female passengers and one male sustained serious injuries and were transported to Benic Special Hospital for medical attention. The body of the deceased was taken to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, for official documentation.

LASTMA operatives reported that the tipper truck driver attempted to flee the scene but was pursued and apprehended. The bus driver was also arrested, and both individuals were handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division for further investigation.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured passengers a swift recovery. He emphasised the dangers of overspeeding, noting, “Excessive speed drastically impairs a driver’s capacity to respond to sudden mechanical failures or unforeseen hazards, thereby magnifying the risk of catastrophic outcomes.”

Truck assistant crushed
The Guardian reports that a truck assistant was killed late on Wednesday night at the Ogolonto Traffic Light Intersection, near the Ikorodu Roundabout, after slipping beneath the rear wheels of a moving truck he was attempting to stabilise.

According to preliminary investigations, the truck reportedly had faulty brakes. The assistant had alighted from the vehicle to place a wooden plank beneath the tyres when he lost his footing and was run over, dying instantly.

LASTMA’s Special Night Gang Patrol Team, on routine duty along the Ikorodu corridor, witnessed the incident and intervened immediately. The truck driver was taken into custody and handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division, while the body of the deceased was transported to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, for formal deposition.

The agency also removed the truck from the expressway to restore traffic flow and prevent further accidents.

Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, described the incident as “highly preventable” and urged truck operators to conduct thorough mechanical inspections, particularly of braking systems, before embarking on journeys. He warned that poor vehicle maintenance not only jeopardises the safety of drivers but also that of other road users.

Bakare-Oki reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to promoting road safety through enforcement, public awareness, and cooperation with relevant security agencies.

21 Secondary School Students Arrested Over Cultism In Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 21 students of Ogioma Public Secondary School, Benin City, for suspected cult activities.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, who disclosed this in a statement on said the students were between 14 and 17 years old.

According to Yamu, the arrest was made following a foiled attack on Osemwende Public Secondary School, located at Oghoghibi, off Benin–Sapele Road, Benin City by the suspects.

The statement reads, “The Edo State Police Command has arrested 21 students of Ogioma Public Secondary School located at Limit road off Benin-Sapele road, aged between 14 and 17years who are suspected to be cultists.

This followed a foiled attack on Osemwende Public Secondary School, located at Oghoghibi off Benin–Sapele Road, Benin City.

“On 12th November, 2025 at about 1:45 p.m., operatives attached to the Loveworld Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly mobilised to Osemwende Public Secondary School where students suspected to be engaged in cultism from Ogioma Public Secondary School stormed the premises in a convoy of motorcycles, allegedly to carry out violent acts.

“The prompt response of the police led to the arrest of 21 of the invading students namely – Promise Afekokhian (16 years), Samuel John (16 years), Godstime Sunday (15 years), Basit Kareem (14 years), Destiny Lucky (15 years), Miracle Peter (16 years), Victor Innocent (14 years), Osazee Efe (16 years), Usman Adamu (17 years) and Orodge Miracle (15 years).

“Others are Godspower Agharevba (16 years), Favour Ogunde (16 years) Clinton Oghenetega (17 years), Wisdom Ehimen (17 years), Zenith Jonathan (17 years), Steven Monday (14 years), Ogbebor Calistus (17 years), Marvelous Imadefe (15 years), Success Ogar (16 years), Osaro Osama Praise (13 years) and Miracle Bassey (16 years) while others escaped.

“Four knives and a chain were recovered from the suspects. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier circulated a threat voice note, boasting of plans to “stage a war,” burn down the school, and harm students and staff — a threat they attempted to carry out before being contained by police intervention.

“Both school principals have been invited for further questioning, and the arrested suspects have been arraigned in court for prosecution. Eight of the twenty-one suspects were remanded while 13 were released to thier parents/guardians who will inturn produce them on 28th November 2025 for the next court sitting.”

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the activities and groups their children associate with, both within and outside school environments.

He also called on school authorities to strengthen discipline, report suspicious gatherings or threats promptly, and collaborate closely with the police to prevent juvenile delinquency and violence in schools.

The CP said the command remained committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents, especially in schools across the state inline with the Nigeria Police Force Safe Schools Initiative.
