A source who saw the corpse before it was removed about 2.10 pm, argued that the positioning of the corpse suggested that the deceased was strangulated and could not have possibly committed suicide.

She added that the deceased had a disagreement with a caller last week, who allegedly paid her but she refused to give him assess, a situation that led to a serious quarrel and a threat by the caller.

A 70-year-old-woman, living around the hotel, identified as Mama Chizoba, disclosed that the sex workers collected between N5,000 to N7000 depending on the class of callers.

She questioned why the proprietors of the hotel should allow the other girls to evacuate their personal belongings from the hotel when the matter has not been fully investigated.

She dismissed the claims that the deceased hanged herself, saying that all the call girls within the hotel have questions to answer.

According to her, “It is painful that this kind of death will happen in a notorious hotel like this and the proprietors will allow the prostitutes living there to be vacating the hotels in broad daylight with their personal belongings when the corpse of their colleague they claimed hanged herself has not been removed and investigated.

“Why are they running, the proprietors and people are looking at them and they are moving out with their personal belongings, one after the other, and they want us to believe that the girl killed herself. How can somebody who hanged herself be standing with her legs touching the floor?”

How Cartels Plant Drugs In Travelers’ Bags — NDLEA

Published

on

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a fresh warning to travelers, advising them on how to avoid being used as unwitting couriers by criminal drug syndicates.

The caution, delivered by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a post on his official X handle on Sunday, stresses a “narco-trend” where cartels use unsuspecting passengers to smuggle illicit drugs.

According to him, “Ensure you wait at the check in counter to see your luggage tagged and go off on the conveyor belt.” This step is critical to prevent airport insiders from planting drugs in a traveler’s bag after they have left the counter.

“Before you board at the foot of the plane, where applicable, please identify your luggage and ensure the details tally with the tag collected at the check in counter.”

This provides a final check to ensure the bag hasn’t been tampered with or switched before loading, he noted.

“Never be in a hurry to ignore or overlook these steps. They will save you from the trauma of accounting for what you know nothing about or facing the consequences of the actions of criminal syndicates,” Babafemi wrote.

The NDLEA’s warning is a response to the prevalent use of “blind mules”—travelers who are unaware they are carrying drugs.

The post read: “Narco-trend update: More than ever before, it’s very important now that when embarking on local or international travels, ensure you wait at the check in counter to see your luggage tagged and go off on the conveyor belt. It’s equally significant that before you board at the foot of the plane, where applicable, please identify your luggage and ensure the details tally with the tag collected at the check in counter.

Never be in a hurry to ignore or overlook these steps. They will save you from the trauma of accounting for what you know nothing about or facing the consequences of the actions of criminal syndicates which smuggle illicit drugs through innocent passengers. For me, I don’t travel with more than my hand luggage for years now. E get why!”

The agency has also foiled attempts to smuggle drugs concealed in car side mirrors and has shared videos on social media to educate the public on the sophisticated methods used by traffickers.

In a recent operation, the agency arrested a Lagos-based church general overseer for allegedly masterminding multiple shipments of illicit drugs from Ghana to Nigeria.

The Nigeria Air Force said it had killed more than 35 jihadists in raids Saturday on militant fighters that had gathered near the Nigeria–Cameroon border following an attempted attack on ground troops.

Acting on multiple intelligence from several sources, the Air Component executed precision strikes in successive passes, engaging the terrorists and neutralising more than 35 fighters at four identified assembly areas,” said a Nigerian Air Force statement.

It re-established communication with the ground troops that had been threatened, and they confirmed that the “situation around their location had been stabilised,” the statement added.

The strike had “intensified efforts” to dominate the battles field and “deny terrorists freedom of action,” said the statement.

While Nigeria’s 16-year-old insurgency has slowed since violence peaked around 2015, attacks have picked up since the beginning of the year.

The Air Force said the latest operation demonstrated the force’s commitment to providing close air support to ground forces, “while also disrupting terrorist logistics and movement corridors along the north east border regions.”
