APC Crises: Party Chieftain To Oshiomhole: Party Dying Under Your Watch, Resign

…Says Oshiomhole Suspended In Ward, LG, State

The crises rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State took a new dimension on Monday as chieftain of the party in the state, Charles Idahosa, says the ruling party under the leadership of Adams Oshiomhole is gradually ‘dying and losing its grip.’

Idaosha therefore called for the resignation of the national chairman which according to him is for the interest and survival of the party.

The party chieftain, while addressing journalists in Benin City on issues bothering on the crises rocking the party in the state said, him being one of the founding fathers of the party in the country cannot keep quiet and watch some persons to destroy the party.

He said, “That is one of the reasons I cannot keep quite. I am a founding father, so, I cannot see people coming into the party to destroy it and keep quiet.

When this party was formed as ADC in 2006 and now metamorphoses to APC, Adams Oshiomhole as at that time was still carrying placards on the streets of Lagos and Abuja, protesting as a labour leader. That was when we formed this party. We knew the roles he played that time.

“From the way we have seen issues, under Oshiomhole, APC is dying gradually and there is no way somebody like me can see issues and pretend not to see it.”

According to Idohasa, the national chairman of the party has no political home base, stressing that he (Oshiomhole) has been suspended by his ward, local government and the state chapter of the party.

He noted that the only way out for him is to tender his resignation letter, adding that he lacks the political acumen to lead the party but can best function as a labour leader.

“If as labour leader, you become very popular, Lerge Valessa was a great labour leader who led a riot in Poland and for that popularity, they voted him to become president of Poland and after few years, he crashed out. He now discovered that trade unionism and activism is completely different from politics.

“Oshiomhole  must have been a very good trade union leader I have my observations about that but as a leader of a political party, he does not have the temperament, he does not have the character to lead the party, the best we can do for himself because we still love him, is to tender his resignation so that the party can have peace because the way the party is going, it is going out of control”, he added.

Speaking on Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, of clinching the party ticket for second time, Idohasa expressed optimism that the state governor would get the party’s ticket whether through direct primaries or indirect primaries.

He noted that the party in the state decides what patterns to use in conducting its primary.

Also reacting to comment on the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, by the national chairman of the party, he noted that Oshiomhole was not fair on his comment that he made Philip, claiming that it was Philip’s late father that made him.

He stressed further that the late Shaibu would turn in his grave over such comment on his son.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.
