Group under the auspices of Bauchi Youth Democratic Assembly (BYDA) has urged Governor Bala Mohammed of the state to fulfill his promise of assisting a corps member for the completion of a maternity she has started as part of of her Comminity Development Service (CDS) project at Sabon Kaura community in the state.
Mrs. Ugochukwu Glory a corps member with NYSC number BA/19B/3811 had earlier sought assistance from the Governor through the Ministry of Works and Transport to complete her CDS projects at Sabon kaura community, suburbs of Bauchi metropolis.
The Governor in his response to her appeal reportedly approved the sum of over N5m to assist the Corps Member to complete the CDS project she single-handedly started.
Mr David Daure, secretary of BYDA while making the appeal in a statement made available to journalists on Friday in Bauchi, noted that the Governor approved the said amount by directing the Ministry of Finance to pay.
“The project is construction of maternity for Sabon Kaura community which has reached roofing stage with support of Ministry of Works and Transport and Habib Engineering Construction Company.
“She sought for assistance from Governor Bala Mohammed to complete the construction of the maternity which she started as part of CDS. If this project is completed, we believe it would earn her award.
“The Governor in his magnanimity approved the sum of N5,290,377.50 for her to complete the construction of the maternity in the community.
“The Governor directed the state Ministry of Finance to release the said amount of money to the Ministry of Works and Transport for onward transmission to the same NYSC member, under the supervision of the ministry by direct labour.
“We are therefore appealing to the Governor to Wade in to the matter for the authorities concerned to release the money for her to complete the construction of the maternity which is very important to the community,” he pleaded.
The secretary of the group expressed worry over government workers’ refusal to adhere to the Governor’s directive.
“Therefore, we are calling on the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed to have a critical look at the issue and give directive for release of the money to enable the corper complete her project,” Daure said
