The Bauchi State Water Users Association (BSWUA), has sensitised 54 community leaders on safeguarding the newly installed water pipes and equipment within Bauchi metropolis and its environs.
Rabiu Garba, secretary of the Association stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Bauchi.
He said maintaining and safeguarding the water pipes would make them last.
He also explained that destroying the installed equipment would hinder supply of water, thereby causing hardship to the residents.
He said the development initiative was geared towards engaging community leaders at the grassroots to contribute in sustaining water projects.
Garba said the public structures with regard to water supply needed to be manned with all sense of responsibilities.
“The association has sensitised 54 districts and ward heads from Bauchi LGA on the ongoing water project and installation of new pipes so that we protect all the gadgets against vandalism.
“This development has cost the government huge investment as such all hands must be on deck to properly utilise it and end issues of portable drinking water,” he said.
Garba commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammmed for his giant strides and investing much on the provision of water across the state.
