Mr. Desmond Edumogiren, Community Liaising Officer for the construction of bridge to Ayokoromo, a riverine community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has appealed to the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to expedite work at the site with a view to completing the bridge before his tenure elapses.
Mr. Edumogiren who made the appeal on Friday in Warri during a one-on-one chat with Info Daily on progress of work so far at the site, said Okowa promised to complete the bridge during his electioneering but unfortunately the work is not progressing as expected.
He added that work is ongoing at the site of the project but he wish the work is faster
While appealing to Okowa to pay more attention to riverine communities in the state, he urged him to replicate the good works he (Okowa) is doing at the inland areas of the state at the coastal areas.
“The government of the day should pay more attention to the riverine area. Like the way the governor is doing some laudable projects in the intland areas of the state, he should replicate such in the riverine area.
“If he is sincere with his promises, he should douse the doubt of the Ijaw people by carrying out tangible projects in the riverine area.
“He made a promise during his campaign that before his tenure elapses he will complete the project. So, if he is really sincere, let him not be in his office and getting report, he should visit the site and see things himself. The Commissioner do supervise, we know, but let him come down and see as he promised,” he said.
While stating that the bridge will open business opportunities for not just Ayakoromo alone but all the riverine communities in that axis if completed, the CLO urged all Ijaw sons and daughters to see the project as theirs and use all the influences they have to speed up the work at the site.
He added, “Once that bridge is completed, it will open that area for business opportunities and development, so it is not Ayakoromo project but the entire Ijaw in that axis. Once this bridge cross to Ayakoromo, in no distance time the road network will get to the headquarters of LGA-Burutu.”
He therefore appealed to Governor Okowa to constantly release funds to the contractor handling the bridge construction so that they can speed up work and complete it if possible before this year runs out.
