Bauchi Higher Institutions To Embark On Two Weeks Earning Strike

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Academic and non Academic staff Union of Bauchi state tertiary institutions has announced that all the state tertiary institutions would embark on a two-week warning strike in the state.

Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, Chairman, Joint Action Committee of Academic and Non Academic Staff Union of the state tertiary institutions disclosed this in a news conference in Bauchi on Friday.

According to him, the two-week warning strike would commence on Monday, 16 and end on Monday 30, 2024.

He explained that the committee would have to reconvene and decide on the next line of actions after the end of the two weeks warning strike.

He said the decision was made at the end of the emergency Congress meeting of the Joint Action Committee of Academic and non Academic staff Union of Bauchi state tertiary institutions.

Following the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum given to the Bauchi state government by JAC during its press conference of November 19, in which it demanded for the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

“The Congress met today and assessed the level of commitment of the government and we acknowledged the efforts of the government for the meager emoluments paid across the salaries of its members in the November salaries.

“However, this falls short of its expectations and demand for the full implementation of the new national minimum wage as approved by National Salaries Income and Wages Commission the only body recognised by law to design salaries of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“Consequently, the Congress has rejected in totality, the current table used by the state government for the payment of November 2024 salaries for the state tertiary institutions.

“JAC also frowned at the attitude of the government for not engaging its leadership throughout the period of ultimatum to resolve the issues at stake amicably,” he said.

The Chairman, who called on all the members to ensure total compliance with the directives, highlighted the members to include the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education Kangere, Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare.

Others are; AD Rufai College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau, Bauchi state College Agriculture, Bill and Melinda Gate College of Health Technology, Ningi.

“JAC wishes to sympathize with the teaming students, parents, and the general public for any inconvenience this industrial action might cause,” he said.

Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been declared winner of Saturday, August 16, 2025 by-election for Edo Central Senatorial District of the state.

According to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the collation centre in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area, Dr. Ikpea scored 105,129 votes, to defeat his closest opponent, Prince Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 15,146 votes.

Edo: APC’s Omosede Igbinedion Wins Ovia Federal Constituency By-election

Barrister Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Ovia Federal Constituency By-election.

Omosede polled 77,053 votes in the Saturday’s by-election.

The returning officer, Mr Clement Ighodaro, announced the result in the early hours of Sunday at Iguobazuwa, Ovia South West Local Government Area.

Igbinedion, daughter of the influential Igbinedion family of Okada, swept aside her rivals in what observers described as a one-sided contest.

JUST IN: Emir Of Zuru, General Sani Sami, Is Dead

The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II (rtd), has passed away at the age of 79.

A palace source confirmed to Tribune Online that the one-time military governor of Bauchi State died today (Sunday) in his palace in Zuru.

Born in Zuru, the late monarch joined the Army on 10 December 1962 and attended training courses both in Nigeria and abroad.

The first-class monarch was appointed military governor of Bauchi State after a coup on 31 December 1983 that brought in late General Muhammadu Buhari to power.
