Bauchi Tribunal Promises To Conclude Assignment In 180 Days

The Governorship, National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Bauchi State, on Monday, promised to conclude its assigned responsibilities within 180 days.

The Tribunal stated this during its inaugural sitting, assured that it would do everything possible to complete its assignment in accordance with the laws.

Chairman of a three-man panel, however called on all Counsel to try as much as possible to avoid technicalities that could cause unnecessary delays.

The Tribunal Chairman whom the Secretary, Mrs Afsat Kings refused to disclose his name assured that the Panel is prepared to hear and determine all the petitions brought before it within the time frame urging all the Counsel to cooperate with the Tribunal.

He announced adjournment of sitting to next week Monday when hearing of the petitions would commence and urged all the Counsel to be time conscious.

Speaking to Journalists after the inaugural sitting, lead Counsel to All Progressives Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, Hakeem Afolabi SAN said that his team was prepared to pursue the petition to logical conclusion.

He assured that the petition would be argued within the time frame stipulated stressing that his team would cooperate with the Tribunal in the dispensation of justice.

In his own remarks, one of the Counsel to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Gov. Bala Mohammed, Barr. Ben Ogbuchi, assured that his legal team was ready to defend the case brought against his clients by the APC.

“We are ready to defend the mandate massively given to Gov. Bala Mohammed as the Governor of Bauchi State by the people. As you can see, he was elected by the people of Bauchi State and we will strongly defend the people’s mandate.”

“We are well prepared to respond to the petitions, we have nothing to fear because the mandate is given by the people of the state,” he said.

The Secretary of the Tribunal, Hafsat Kings refused to oblige Journalists covering the proceedings, names of the three-member Tribunal panel, saying that she was not mandated to do that in spite of pleadings by the Journalists.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.
