Benin Throne Is Non Partisan, says Oba of Benin

Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has said that the revered throne of the Benin kingdom is non-partisan.

The Benin monarch who disclosed this when APC governors and other big wigs of the party led by its Caretaker Committee chairman and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni went to seek his blessings for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu the party’s governorship candidate for the September 19 governorship election, noted that he is not against any candidate neither is he in support of any.

The Oba emphasized that, as a royal father, he has just three cardinal prayer points inherited from his ancestors, and the prayers are: that God should give to the state, a governor that will accord the Benin throne the required respect; that God should give to the state a governor that will bring development to the state; and finally a governor that will provide to Edo resident a three square meal per day.

” Let me say this, the Benin throne is non partisan, and I have said this several times. We are father to everybody. I will urge everyone to pray so the person God wants win.

” I am not against any candidate neither I am in support of any candidate.

” I have three cardinal prayer points I offer to God Almighty which were inherited from our ancestors. The prayer points are: that God should give us a candidate that will accord the Benin throne the required respect; the candidate that will bring development to Edo State; and a candidate that will provide three square meal per day to Edo people,” the Royal Father said.

The Oba who emphasized the need for a peaceful campaign and election at the September 19 polls, disclosed that due to his belief in prayers he has urge the council of chiefs in the kingdom including himself to earnestly pray for a peaceful election.

He urged the party to go about their campaign in a peaceful manner, stressing that Edo State and Nigeria at large need peace.

Earlier, Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe State and caretaker committee chairman of the party said they were in the Royal Father’s palace to seek his blessings and has tradition required to pay him homage before kicking off their campaign.

Those present in the campaign train are: Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna; Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos; Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi; Hope Uzodinma of Imo; Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo; Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger; Gboyega Oyetola of Osun; and other leaders including Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, and Minister Rotimi Ameachi.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.
