Benue by-election Witnesses Low Turnout

Low voter turnout charactered the by-election in the Guma 1 state constituency of Benue State.

A visit to some of the polling units at Daudu, a low turnout of voters was observed.

Voting commenced at exactly 8:30 a.m. at the Ali Agudu polling unit in Daudu which is populated by internally displaced persons.

Speaking to journalists, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Benue State, Prof. Sam Egwu, applauded the peaceful conduct of the election.

He said that the commission did enough enlightenment campaign and wondered about the low turnout of voters.

On the part of the commission, we did enough enlightenment campaign but the rest is left for political parties to mobilise their people,” he said.

Also speaking while monitoring the election, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State, Emmanuel Adesina, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election.

He stated that the command had deployed enough officers to have a hitch-free election.
