[BREAKING] Otukpo Massacre: Lobi Stars, Abia Warriors NPFL Clash Postponed

The Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, match between Lobi Stars and Abia Warriors slated to hold today, Saturday 21st October 2023, at the Lafia township stadium has been postponed.
The postponement of the match which was slated to kick off at 4pm in Lafia town is said to be in honour those who lost their lives in Otukpo, Benue State during the deadly attacks on four banks yesterday afternoon by armed robbers in the area.
Recall that armed robbers invaded several banks in Otukpo at about 3 pm on Friday, shooting sporadically.

Dominic Iorfa, Vice Chairman and CEO of Lobi Stars FC, announced the postponement on Saturday.
Iorfa, in a statement made available to DAILY POST said the postponement is to sympathize with the immediate families of those who were killed in the deadly attack.
The statement read: “We regret to inform you that, Lobi Stars NPFL matchday 4 tie against Abia Warriors has been postponed.
“The reason for the postponement is to sympathize with the immediate families who lost their loved ones in a deadly robbery attack on four banks in Otukpo, Benue State, yesterday.
“Otukpo, venue of the deadly incident is the Local Government of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Sam Ode, who is also the Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club.

“Following this ugly incident, the Management of Lobi Stars approached the league authorities and requested for a shift in date so as to mourn with the bereaved.
“Consequently, the league authorities have approved their request and shifted Lobi Stars’ encounter against visiting Abia Warriors to Sunday, 22nd October 2023 at the same venue in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Time remains 4pm.
“May God grant those who lost their lives during the incident eternal rest and console their families.”

AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Players Refuse To Travel For Algeria Game Over Bonuses

Super Eagles players and coaches have refused to travel to Marrakech due to unpaid bonuses.
This was revealed by BBC Africa journalist, Oluwashina Okeleji, who is in Morocco.
Nigeria are billed to take on Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday evening.

But it is understood they have not paid their bonuses for the four matches they have played.
Eric Chelle’s men beat Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda in the group fixtures, before they thrashed Mozambique 4-0 in the Round of 16.
They have taken the decision not to travel or train anymore until the bonuses issue is resolved.

AFCON: Osimhen Threatens To Dump Super Eagles, Return To Galatasaray

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, reportedly threatened to quit the national team and return to Turkey.
According to Arise News, Osimhen was left fuming following his altercation with Ademola Lookman during the 4-0 win over Mozambique at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Having scored a brace thanks to assists from Lookman, the 27-year-old lashed out at his team-mate for failing to pass to him in the 64th minute.

Osimhen then beckoned on the bench asking to be taken off, before he was replaced by Moses Simon.
At full time, Osimhen stormed out of the stadium and dropped his accreditation card, insisting he was “done” with the national team and wanted to fly back to Turkey.
He was then pacified by senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

NPFL Announces Resumption Date For Second Stanza

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has announced a date for the start of the second stanza of the 2025-26 season.
The second stanza will commence on Wednesday, 14 January, 2026.
The fixture will start with mid-week games across all the designated NPFL centers.

The NPFL disclosed this in a letter addressed to all the clubs.
The league body urged clubs to expect fixtures congestion in the second stanza.
