Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, on Sunday, said that the sanctity of life must always be respected in every society and at any point in time.
Mohammed, who stated this when he visited Yelwa Tsakani and its environs where a community clash erupted on Friday, May 27, 2022, promised to fish out and punish the perpetrators and punish them in accordance with the law.
Recall that the state governor, on Saturday, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Yelwa-Tsakani, Yelwa-Lushi, Kagadama, and Birshi communities in the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis, after lives were lost, some houses burnt and many injured in the clash.
While addressing the people of the area to preach peace, Mohammed said “life should be sacrosanct, the sanctity of life must be respected.

“I’m here with all your leaders to plead to you to calm down. We will make sure that justice is done to whoever perpetuated this.
“Live and let’s live. Let us respect each other, let us respect our different persuasions because we are all one
“As your leader, I believe in unity, equity and justice. Please, we will make sure that nobody is spared. There shouldn’t be any untouchability in whatever we are doing in terms of reward and punishment.
“I’m saying this because my mind is touched that this serene place, somebody was killed just like that”.
The governor, however, promised to construct a police station in the area for quick response to any untoward activities, adding that the government would send the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to evaluate the losses incurred and to provide succour and solace.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Sanda, said that the clash had no religious, political or ethnic colouration.
Narrating what led to the clash, Sanda said “on the 27th day of May 2022, there was an incident that happened and finally culminated into burning of houses and we lost two lives.

“What really happened was that a fellow by name Abubakar Usman, who came to drop his girlfriend on his way going back, he was attacked by some young people who are yet unidentified.
“They attacked him with axes and he sustained injury on his head, hand and the police came to his rescue.
“Then not quite long after that, one Mohammad Danlati, was lynched down and was burnt to ashes and after some hours, we also found one Mathieu Sabo dead”.
