Court Fixes Date To Hear Alleged Misappropriation Case Against Ganduje

A Kano State High Court has scheduled Nov. 20 for the hearing of all pending applications in the ongoing case of alleged bribery and misappropriation of public funds against the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and seven others.

Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, and three corporate entities—Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited—are facing an eight-count charge filed by the state government.

The charges involve alleged bribery, misappropriation, and the diversion of public funds amounting to billions of naira.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the court was scheduled to hear a preliminary objection from the sixth defendant.

Counsel for the plaintiff, Mr Adeola Adedipe, SAN, informed the court of their readiness to proceed, noting that a witness had travelled from Lagos to attend the hearing.

However, counsel for the first, second, and fourth defendants, Mr Offiong Offiong, SAN, stated that they had not been served the necessary documents, including the plaintiff’s counter affidavit and the preliminary objection.

He requested an adjournment to allow time to review the filings.

Similarly, counsel for the third and seventh defendants, Mr. Taye Falola, noted they had also not been served the documents.

He confirmed the filing of a preliminary objection on Oct. 10 and requested a new hearing date.

The sixth defendant’s counsel, Mr. Nureini Jimoh, SAN, expressed readiness to proceed with their application, while the fifth and eighth defendants’ lawyers, Abdul Adamu SAN and Mr. Faruk Asekome, echoed the same concerns about not receiving the plaintiff’s filings.

Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu emphasised the importance of proper service of documents, overruling the plaintiff’s request to proceed immediately.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case until Nov. 20 for the hearing of all pending applications.

The case is attracting significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the defendants, particularly Ganduje, who was is the APC’s National Chairman.

60-year-old Man Arrested For Raping Lagos Lady

The Lagos State Police Command, Gender Unit, has arrested a 60-year-old man, Ajayi Femi, for allegedly raping a 24-year-old lady.

The command disclosed this in a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Monday.

The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly spiked the survivor’s drink, rendering her unconscious, before having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

The incident took place on August 22, 2025, and was reported by the victim’s sister to the police at the Meiran Police Station before being transferred to the Gender Unit of the command for further investigation.

Medical examinations conducted by the Gender Unit corroborated the survivor’s account, while the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation,” the statement read.

The command revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and has since been remanded in prison custody until the next adjourned date.

It added, “The command remains committed to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offences.”

This case comes weeks after operatives of the command arrested a 45-year-old man in Ikotun for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

The incident, which attracted widespread outrage, reignited calls from rights activists for stiffer penalties against sex offenders.

Man Faces Trial For Killing Minor, Two Others

The Adamawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 29-year-old man, Isiaka Hassan, for killing a five-year-old minor.

The command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement on Monday in Yola, stated, “The Adamawa State Police Command received a report from Hadiza Bashiru of Tingno, Lamurde LGA, that her five-year-old son, Abba Bashiru, was missing and was last seen with one Isiaka Hassan.

“On the strength of that, the command’s operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tingno, swiftly led an operation and arrested the said Isiaka Hassan, who during interrogation confessed to having conspired with one yet-to-be-arrested person to kill the boy and bury him in a shallow grave.”

The statement disclosed that the corpse of the minor was exhumed and taken to the hospital for autopsy, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

In a similar development, the command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime.

The operatives of the command led by the DPO Yola Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Musa Suleh, of Uba Hong Local Government Area, for being in possession of vehicles suspected to be stolen.

The suspect was apprehended at the Jambutu Motor Park, Yola North LGA. Upon interrogation, he confessed to stealing a Toyota Starlet, with registration number YLA-420, belonging to one Babawo Abubakar of Ngurore, Yola South LGA. The vehicle has since been recovered.

Another Toyota Starlet, green in colour, with number plate JAL-861 CL was equally found in his possession with no single document or proof of ownership to justify ownership of the vehicle.”

Morris directed that the case be transferred to the State CID for further investigation with a view to uncovering the source of the vehicles.

The command called on the public to cooperate with the police by giving timely and useful information regarding suspicious characters around them and reassured them that its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property is the top priority of the command

According to the police boss, the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, have arrested a 37-year-old suspect with 8,000 bottles of Akuskura (a herbal mixture) suspected to contain dangerous drugs and 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

The NDLEA Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Tuesday.

The interception occurred around Gadar Tamburawa, Zaria – Kano Road, during a stop of a trailer conveying goods from Lagos en route to Maiduguri.

“The trailer was fully loaded with tricycles (Keke NAPEP), and the exhibit was concealed between the Keke NAPEP units and beneath the trailer, where a wooden cover had been constructed to hide the items.

NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through their diligence and commitment,” Maigatari said.

According to him, both the exhibits and the suspect are now in NDLEA custody pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of the substances and determine the full scope of the operation.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious consignments or activity to the nearest NDLEA office or other law enforcement agency for prompt action.

In the last seven months, the NDLEA has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illicit substances, arresting 1,315 suspected drug traffickers and peddlers.

The agency also seized a total of 1,387,254.27 kilograms of assorted drugs during the period under review.

Cannabis topped the list of seizures, with 126,168.73kg recovered during raids and another 801,553.23kg destroyed directly on farms.

In addition, the NDLEA uncovered and destroyed 43 cannabis farms spanning over 320 hectares in Edo, Ondo, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, and Osun States.
