C’River Missing As S’South States Battle In Zonal Elimination Games In Benin

Cross River State is copiously missing in the ongoing South-South Zonal Elimination for eight-ball games which kicked started in Benin, the Edo State capital today (Monday).
The zonal elimination games is in preparation ahead of the 2025 National Festival billed to hold in Ogun State.
An anonymous source disclosed that though the state (Cross River) was invited for the games, none of the official or athletes were yet to arrive Benin.
The event started today (Monday), February 24, 2025 with meetings among state directors and coordinators of the South South zone team representatives.

The games would commence in full tomorrow (February 25) after draws for the games were conducted.
The successful conduct of the draws has set the stage for the games.
The participating states in the eight-ball games zonal elimination championship are Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Edo, the host.
Delta State has Male and female teams participating in Abula, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, and Volleyball.
Bayelsa State on its part has Male and female teams in Abula, Hockey, only female (female), Basketball (male), Volleyball (female), Beach Volleyball, and Handball.

River State is not left out with Male and female teams participating jn Abula, Beach Volleyball, Hockey, while it has only females for Basketball and male for Volleyball and Basketball respectively
Akwa Ibom State has Male and female teams in Beach Volleyball and male for Basketball (male), Football, Handball (female), and Cricket.
Edo State (Host): Male and female teams in Abula, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, and Volleyball.
Peter Njoku, South South zonal coordinator,
commended governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebhole for his support for sports development in the state.
According to him, the governor’s leadership has created an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.
He also applauded the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Honorable Amadin Desmond Enabulele for his tireless efforts in organizing the event, despite the short notice to host the South South Elimination, saying his dedication in promoting sports in Edo State is truly commendable.

EPL: Chelsea Set To Sanction First Summer Transfer Under Alonso

Chelsea are set to sanction their first summer transfer under their new manager, Xabi Alonso.
According to the BBC Sport, the Blues are ‘open’ to selling Filip Jorgensen this summer after the goalkeeper indicated his desire to leave Stamford Bridge.
Jorgensen joined the Premier League west London club two seasons ago from Villarreal.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper was expected to compete for the number one position with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, but he made just 11 Premier League appearances over the two seasons.
However, while the arrival of Alonso to Stamford Bridge could lead to a change in fortunes for Jorgensen, the report added that the Danish star has already expressed his desire to leave Chelsea this summer to get more regular playing game-time elsewhere.
Chelsea had blocked a potential exit for Jorgensen in the January transfer window, but the Premier League west London club are now open to a sale, with European and English clubs expected to explore a deal for the goalkeeper.

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has handed his old club two signings to make in the summer.
Merson wants Arsenal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez and a new midfielder.

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has picked the Red Devils defender Luke Shaw as the most improved player in the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking on his BBC podcast, Rooney said, “I think, for me, Luke Shaw. I think Luke Shaw has been the most improved player this season.
“I know he is an experienced player now, but I think his level this season has been much better than it has been in recent seasons.
