One of the said to be fastest growing aquatic weed floating plant, Water Hyacinth has taken over a River in Ugheli South Local Government Area, Delta State.
The Arhavwarien River, which the water Hyacinth has impacted heavily on is the major access to the Arhavwarien clan.
Residents of this agrarian and oil and gas-rich kingdom have been suffering and facing difficulty in traveling out and in due to lack of access bridge to the island kingdom.
The Ovie of Arhavwarien kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Solomon Akporhiere Onajeta, Okukenren III, expressed dismay over the water Hyacinth blocking the already difficult access to his kingdom.
The Monarch who added that the water Hyacinth has complicated easy navigation to the area, appealed to the Delta State government and relevant agencies to come to the area and help remove the water Hyacinth.
Okukenren III who stressed the need for urgent government consideration and approval of Arhavwarien bridge linking his domain, noted that with the construction of bridge to the kingdom, his subjects pains passing through the polluted river that has destroyed aquatic lives would be a thing of the past.
His Majesty added that the only way to avert the continuous free floating of the water plant is to continuously carry out skimming of the Arhavwarien river which serves as source of livelihood to the people.
