Customs Intercepts N4.3bn Cocaine, Arms Imported From South Africa, Canada

The Tincan Island Command, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has impounded 56.39kg of cocaine and 955kg of Colorado Indica (marijuana). They are worth N4.3 billion.

The hard drugs were smuggled from South Africa and Canada.

Also, Customs intercepted arms and ammunition.

The Comptroller General of Customs, CAC, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this in a media conference on Thursday in Lagos. He said that the seized cocaine was worth N2.4 billion, while the marijuana was valued at N1.9 billion.

Furthermore, he said, the Command intercepted five pistols, 445 rounds of live ammunition and several empty pistol magazines.

Adeniyi listed the seized items as 65 packets of Colarado Indica, weighing 32.5kg seized from 1X40FT container No. UACU 534833/6 imported from Canada.

According to him, “Others are 17 packets weighing 16.690kg confirmed to be cocaine, 151 packets Colarado Indica weighing 107 kg. Also, one piece Gen2 Air soft pistol with serial No. 471908, empty magazine, 49 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition and 197 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

“Also recovered were precursor chemicals for the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, eight bags weighing 25kg tartaric acid, 100 kegs of unspecified substances seized from 1x40ft Container No. MSCU 458177/0 imported from Durban South Africa.

“40 packets weighing 39.7kg confirmed to be Cocaine, 1,026 packets weighing 688.2kg confirmed to be Colarado Indica. Two pistols without serial numbers, one pistol with SerialNo. AZYSRA6YSO12101181, three empty magazines, 275 rounds of 5.5mm M16 Tavor live ammunition.

“Six rounds of 9mm blank ammunition seized from in 1x40ft container No. THRU 796807/1 and imported from Durban South Africa.

“226 packets weighing 128kg confirmed to be Cannabis Indica seized from 1x40ft Container No.MEDU 785276/3 imported from Durban South Africa,” the Custom boss said.

Adeniyi said cooperation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, proved effective in pooling resources and intelligence.

Earlier, the Director-General of NDLEA, Buba Maruwa, said the interception speaks volumes about the hard work and diligence of security agencies.

He said this while receiving the seized hard drugs from Customs. Maruwa was represented at the event by the spokesperson of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi.

He added that the seizure was a testament that just like the airports, the seaports are also secured.

Marwa said: “The Customs command and other units had diligently tracked the movement of the containers up to the time of their landing in our port.

“In the spirit of inter-agency collaboration, NDLEA never hesitated to share intelligence with the Tincan Island Command of the NCS.

“We also requested that the command ensure the containers were pinned down for 100 percent examination,” he said.

Ex-convict Arrested In Edo For Armed Robbery, Possession Of Firearm

The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict, Owen Osas, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and suspected involvement in a robbery incident.

Osas was reportedly arrested with a cut-to-size single-barrel gun during a covert operation along Fishpond Road in Eyean, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.

The arrest reportedly comes barely a year after he was released from prison, where he had served time for illegal possession of firearms and other criminal offences.

Osas, who confessed to the latest crime, also admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Consequently, a victim of an alleged robbery incident, Reginia Izy, identified Osas as the person who robbed her a day before his arrest.

The victim narrated that the suspect had approached her residence around 8 p.m., pretending to be familiar before carrying out the attack.

‎The Deputy Commander Operations of ESSC, Richard Balogun, said the arrest was part of intensified efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements.

‎Balogun explained that operatives conduct both overt patrols and covert operations to track and apprehend suspects.

He said, ‎“Our men are always on patrol. Some operate in plain clothes as part of covert strategies, while others are stationed at strategic locations.

“Osas, who is a former convict, was arrested with firearms and he also confessed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.”

Gunmen Kidnap Businessman In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old man in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victim was kidnapped on Saturday while on his way to his residence.

The incident occurred at Jinarere, Alakia in Ibadan.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Ayanlade in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, explained that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim.

Ayanlade said, “Preliminary information reveals that the victim, a 60-year-old male and building materials trader, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle”.

Tragedy As Suspected Kidnappers Kill Young Entrepreneur In Edo

A 30-year-old entrepreneur and CEO of Principle Takeout, Justice Abu Oshioke, has been killed by suspected kidnappers in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He was reportedly attacked by the suspected kidnappers on Saturday while on his way to pick up an order made for his child’s dedication on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers attempted to force him into a nearby bush in a kidnapping attempt. However, he reportedly resisted and tried to escape.

In the course of the struggle, the assailants opened fire, shooting him multiple times.

Concerned residents quickly rushed him to a nearby medical facility, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The tragic event has turned a joyous occasion into a moment of grief for the family.

The shocking development has left the Ekpoma community in deep sorrow, with many residents expressing outrage over the growing insecurity in the area.

Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika has ordered a “full-scale investigation and intensified manhunt for those responsible.” 

According to her, the Police, in collaboration with the military, local vigilantes, and hunters, are actively pursuing the perpetrators through coordinated operations.
