Delta: Burutu LG Boss, Takeme, Inaugurates Peace, Advocacy Committee

In his bid to promoting peace and unity in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, the council chairman, Dr. Julius Takeme, Tuesday, inaugurated a 23-member Peace Building and Advocacy Committee saddled with the responsibility of mediating between individuals, groups and communities.

Inaugurating the committee at the council secretariat in Burutu, chaired by retired Justice. J.F. Daubry, the council boss, who described the committee members as men and women of integrity, said they are to serve as an adversary role in maintaining peace in the council.

Chief Fidelis Tubotu, serves as Secretary of the committee while Apostle Godsflag Agboun; Chief October Kuro-Ogu; Gen. Brodrick Demeyeibo; Chief Elimina Namah Eselemo; Chief James Nicketen; Barr. B.D Ekpese; Barr. Torugbene Oloye; Chief Patrick Fufeyin; Chief Gabriel Benede; Chief Lucky Yoweibo; Dr (Mrs.) and Jennet Abdullahi, serve as members.

Other members of the committee are: Chief Dauyeibo Kitua; Chief Apiakise Apiakise Coleman; Barr. Isa Clark;
Hon. Gift Gomeromo; Prince Peter Numa; Chief Torololo Love; Chief Clement Kęmetimibibo; Chief (Mrs) Ter Okpe; Chief Pukon Samson Eles; Chief Douglas T.M.O and Chief Fidelis Tubotu.

The council chairman, council exco members and the peace and advocacy committee members at the inauguration in Burutu on Tuesday.

Takeme charged the committee members to maintain the integrity they are known for, stressing that they were carefully selected amongst a multitude of people because of their antecedents.

The council boss, who said the inauguration of the committee is part of the fulfilment of his administration’s electioneering, noted that he wants a situation where Burutu becomes a reference point for peace not only in Delta State but Nigeria at large.

He noted: “We swore an oath to deliver on our electioneering, and this is part of it. We promised that we will try our best to bring real governance to the people, and that is exactly what we are doing.”

“We want to make Burutu a reference point for peace not just in this state (Delta) but in the country.

“Your responsibility starts from individuals, to groups and communities. Try your best to meditate in any conflicting issues either between individuals, groups or communities. Try your best to do this diligently.”

The council boss, while expressing confidence in the committee members, urged them to carry along the local government wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He stressed that CAN is pivotal to peace building.

Responding on behalf of the committee members, Justice Daubry thanked the Chairman for finding them worthy of the appointment, promising that they will not disappoint the council.

Exco members of the council present at the inauguration included: Chief (Mrs.) Georgina Evah, Vice Chairman; Hon. Okpako Doctor, Supervisor for Education; Hon. Immaculate Birialade, Supervisor for Agric; Hon. Godwin Oro, Supervisor for Environment, and Hon. Pudigha Biakpara, Supervisor for Works.

Also present at the inauguration were traditional rulers drawn from different communities in the council.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.
