In a statement, yesterday, MumakaiUnagha, who chaired the Youth Mobilization Committee, said, “We demand that the state government recognizes and appreciates our efforts, and sacrifices that brought the state to reality “

“The state government, especially the past administrations, were not fair to us. When I mean us, I refer to those of us that worked tirelessly for Delta state to be created.”

” If the state government can reward athletes that won medals, I do not see any reason why we should not be honoured . I guess the state government does not have the names of the Committee members, even for record purpose.

“I want to say that previous governments of the state failed to recognize some of us, rather they abandoned us to our peril.

“No successive administration has taken bold steps to say thank you but their primary concern is wealth making for themselves and their immediate families.

“I recall that some of us passed through thick and thin during the sensitization visit to communities, and awareness campaign on the need to support the state creation movement.

“In one of such movements, we were attacked by armed robbers, our vehicle broke dawn at midnight on our way from Agbor back to Warri. At that time, I was the chairman of Youth Mobilisation Committee.

“It is regrettable that it is only in Delta State the labour of our heroes past is in vain, not appreciated.

“We are not demanding too much; just that the state government should appreciate our efforts. I am one of the few surviving members of the State Creation Committee still alive. “

A former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, citing deepening internal divisions and unresolved leadership crises.

“You may recall that over the years, I have remained firm and deeply committed to the ideals of the PDP. Even when nearly all stakeholders departed the party following our loss in the 2015 presidential election, I pledgedto remain the last man standing.”

He said his efforts to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party helped restore it to national relevance, but that recent events had weakened the PDP beyond recognition.

Mark added, “However, recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to public ridicule.

Aregbesola Emerges ADC Interim National Secretary

Published

on

Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has agreed to serve as the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.

A former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i, Aregbesola bemoaned the current political structure in Nigeria, saying that, “our political landscape is plagued by parties that lack ideological depth. They are empty shells, merging and splitting, not over policy or principle, but over power and personality. There is little regard for the people, and even less for the country.”

According to the ex-Osun Governor and two-time Commissioner for Works in Lagos state, noted, “The ADC is not perfect, but it stands for something. It was forged in resistance, sharpened by vision, and led by men and women who believe in justice, dignity, equality, inclusivity of all interests and true freedom. It has character. It has soul. It is therefore a true platform for expressing their aspirations.

“Sadly, in Nigeria today, we cannot say the same about many of our political parties.

“Political parties, therefore, are not merely machines for winning elections but institutions for mobilising, organising, energising, educating, empowering and encouraging the people towards their emancipation and development.

“A political party is not a platform for opportunism. It is not a mere vehicle to power for the few, nor a tool for personal ambition. A political party, in its truest form, is a living institution built on values, guided by ideals, and accountable to the people it seeks to serve.

“As the National Secretary, I will work to build a party that has a clear ideological compass as a party that is absolutely committed to the people, rooted in democratic values, rule of law, social justice, accountability, transparency and national development.
