Dickson, Wike’s Impasse: ‘You Are Inciting Hatred, Discord Among Ijaw’, Dickson Tells Wike

Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has accused his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike , of perpetrating “a clandestine ethnic supremacist agenda ” to undermine the interest of Ijaw people in Rivers State politics.
Dickson said part of Wike’s political plot was to fan the embers of hatred between the Ijaw people in Rivers and their kinsmen in Bayelsa State with a view to stoking the fire of disharmony in Ijaw land.
He was responding to recent reports credited to Wike in which he (Wike) accused Dickson of sneaking into Rivers State and paying a visit to the monarch of Kalabari Kingdom without recourse to protocol .

In a live media chat in Yenagoa on Saturday night, the Bayelsa State Governor criticised Wike for using the disputed Soku oil wells between the two states as a mere subterfuge to achieve his interest.
“And I want it recorded that Governor Wike is deliberately inciting disunity in Ijaw land because of his ethnic supremacist political agenda which he knows that Bayelsa, particularly Governor Dickson and my agenda, will not support. That’ s what he’s doing”, he added.
He, however, described Wike’s comments as “reckless, childish and uncivilised”, stressing that the Rivers governor should have known that the dispute over the Soku oil wells predated his (Wike’s ) administration .
Further dismissing Wike’s claim that Bayelsa State was laying ownership claim to Soku, Dickson explained that while Soku was a Kalabari – Ijaw community in Rivers State, the disputed oil wells were located in Oluasiri in the Nembe Local Government of Bayelsa State .
He noted that Wike was playing up the Soku oil wells dispute as a ploy to create disunity among the Ijaw ethnic nationality and also cover up “ the deliberate underdevelopment of Rivers Ijaw communities ” by pretending to be their champion .
Reports had that Wike accused Dickson of creating tension in Rivers State by embarking on the trip without seeking “clearance from appropriate authorities ” under the guise of “ coming to see Ijaw people.”
He said Dickson was pretentiously “professing love for Ijaw people in Rivers but yet busy working to take the state’s oil resources in Soku and Kula .”

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.
“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.
“This contradiction will no longer be tolerated,” the statement said.

Xenophobic Attacks: Oshiomhole Tells FG To Retaliate Against South African Companies In Nigeria

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to retaliate against South African businesses operating in Nigeria following the recent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, Oshiomhole said the Federal Government should consider revoking the working license of South African owned companies such as MTN and DSTV.
He argued that Nigeria must respond firmly to what he described as persistent hostility against its citizens.

“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” Oshiomhole said.
He argued that while some South Africans accuse Nigerians of taking their jobs, Nigerians should return home and take over employment opportunities created by major South African companies operating in the country, including MTN and DSTV.
“When we hit back, the President of South Africa will not only talk but will also go on his knees to recognise that Nigeria cannot be intimidated.

“We will not condone any life being lost. If a crime has been committed under the South African law they have the right to bring any such person to justice, but to kill our people as if we are helpless, we will not allow that,” Oshiomhole added.
DAILY POST reports that several Nigerians in South Africa have reportedly been attacked, and their businesses destroyed, in ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
