DR Congo FA President Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Football Federation, FECOFA, Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas, has been handed a life sentence after being found guilty of multiple financial offences.
The conviction followed an eight-month probe into allegations of corruption and financial misconduct within the country’s football governing body.
A court found Mayolas culpable of offences including money laundering, embezzlement, forgery, and the use of falsified documents.

The ruling was delivered in his absence, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges brought against him.
Two other senior officials of the federation were also convicted in connection with the case.
FECOFA Secretary-General, Badji Mombo Wantete, and the federation’s Treasurer, Raoul Kanda, were each sentenced to five years in prison over their roles in the financial irregularities.
The verdict is being viewed as a significant step in the authorities’ push to promote transparency and accountability in the administration of football in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Officials say holding senior figures responsible for wrongdoing will help rebuild confidence in the country’s sporting institutions.
The development has sparked strong reactions among football supporters, players, and stakeholders, many of whom have called for sustained reforms to curb corruption and ensure that funds meant for the development of the game are properly managed.
Observers say the case reflects the broader challenges faced by sports organisations in safeguarding financial integrity and reinforces the message that corruption will attract severe consequences, regardless of rank or position.

“I expect Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard to lead the Arsenal attack in this game,” Merson said.
“I like Trossard. He plays in all the big games because he’s such a reliable and good footballer. But I don’t expect Arsenal to open PSG up with this trio. Their real chance is through set-pieces,” he said.
PSG and Arsenal head to the game after eliminating Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, respectively, in the semi-final earlier this month.
