Edo 2024: Imansuangnon On The Verge Of Glory

Published

on

In a couple of days from now the D Day, will be knocking on our doorsteps as political gladiators in Edo State will gather to make a wise pick of who best flies a political party flag in the September 2024 gubernatorial poll in Edo State.

Of course, who best flies a political party flag is tantamount to who has the best chance to come out top in the election proper in the midst of the hordes of candidates when the chips are down.

From in-depth analysis and with reference to the outcome of the presidential, national assembly and House of assembly polls this year, the three top leading parties in the acclaimed heartbeat state are Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

For the sake of this discussion let’s zero in on the LP which at the moment is parading over 50 individuals who have shown interest in participating in any process that will produce the party’s choice of flagbearer.

Of these band of would be aspirants you have the new faces, the serious minded, the adventurers, the popularity seekers, placeholders, the glory seekers and the political merchants.

To save time we will concentrate on the serious minded which are those who are looking beyond being aspirants and are already mapping out what their blueprint to develop the state will look like when they are elected into office.

In this category is Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon who has been a recurring decimal in every election in the state in the past over 20 years.

“The Riceman”, which is the monika with which the businessman cum erudite politician is lovingly addressed, has never been a cloud chaser in his political aspirations. He has never hidden his aspiration to give the state a better narrative when he gets into the Osadebey Avenue based government house.

He has never participated in merchandising of political positions in the name of serving party loyalty.

Imansuangbon have always invested his hard earned resources in placing whichever party he belongs to in the right platform not minding what some misrepresent as seeking for favour.

“The Riceman” is a serial entrepreneur whose main anchor is in the field of education where the mention of his Abuja based Pacesetters Group of Schools elicit memories of an outfit that continue to blossom over the years as a result of the managerial acumen of the Ewohinmi born educationist, a product of the then University of Ife(now Obafemi Awolowo University).

Another attribute which is working in Barrister Imansuangbon’s favour is his ability to place the right people in positions where they are best fitted to perform.

With Imansuangbon as the LP candidate for the 2024 Edo State Governorship Election there is no doubt that he stands the best chance of winning the poll and thus will actualise his over two decades credible governance mantra.

The coalition while expressing worry about the level of instability the country is going through, urged the judicial system to save Nigeria’s democracy and rid itself of political and executive interference..

Speaking on the essence of the coalition, the National Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam said, “We looked into the issue of the judiciary. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man if it still stands.

“We are worried about the level of instability the country is going through. If you look at recent developments in Zamfara, Nasarawa, Kano, and Plateau states, it is very clear that the judiciary must exercise extreme caution with some of its decisions.

“The judiciary should strengthen their conviction towards delivering judgments that can stand the test of time. They should not allow we politicians to infiltrate their rank, sanity, and capacity to deliver judgments that are internationally sound and can be recognised.”.

“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail, and deliberate sabotage.

“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace, as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”

The governor added that drastic measures will be taken to strengthen education, healthcare, and social services across the state so that no part, including the rural areas, will be left behind.

In advancing these human capital development efforts, the governor emphasised that the 2024 budget of the state will prioritise and provide sufficient funding to create universal access to affordable and quality education and healthcare services in Rivers State.

He added, “We will also take deliberate steps to unlock the entrepreneurial spirit among our teeming unemployed youths through viable initiatives on skills development, entrepreneurship training, and targeted investments in commercial agriculture.”

Meanwhile, Fubara also urged traditional rulers to be upright and royal fathers of integrity who do not compromise their neutrality.

He also enjoined them to be courageous and speak the truth to power so that they do not lose their moral authority and legitimacy before their people.

“We must all be worried about the plight of our youths, especially those in rural communities, most of whom are poor, neglected, and almost forgotten in the government’s development plans, policies, and actions.
