A youth-based professional group known as Edo Professional Alliance (EPA) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate of the party in the 2020 elections, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to throw his hat in the ring for the contest.

The group said that he has all the qualities and characteristics to change the face of Edo State.

In a statement in Benin late Sunday after their meeting, the Spokesman of the group, Adebayo Ashaolu said that Ize-Iyamu has the capacity to help APC reclaim the state based on his political antecedents.

The statement reads: “Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is an organic politician who has not lived anywhere else in the World than Edo State.

“He has a firm knowledge of the State and the indices of development or lack of it. He has been quite patient and he has not taken the issue of becoming governor like a do-or-die affair.

“He is not an Emergency Edolite like some , who suddenly know that they are from Edo State, when all their friends, investments and interests are in Lagos. He is indeed Edo through and through. He knows no other land than Edo State. He is therefore the most suited for the job, as he has cut his teeth in all strata of political leadership in Edo State and therefore understands the dynamics of government.

“We are calling on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to contest the next governorship election as he is needed for a rescue mission to redeem the state from the development that exist only on laptops, iPad, Facebook and WhatssAp under the current dispensation.”

The coalition comprised the Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, Social Democratic Party, Peoples Allied Movement, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Young Progressives Party, and Zenith Labour Party.

The coalition while expressing worry about the level of instability the country is going through, urged the judicial system to save Nigeria’s democracy and rid itself of political and executive interference..

Speaking on the essence of the coalition, the National Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam said, “We looked into the issue of the judiciary. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man if it still stands.

“We are worried about the level of instability the country is going through. If you look at recent developments in Zamfara, Nasarawa, Kano, and Plateau states, it is very clear that the judiciary must exercise extreme caution with some of its decisions.

“The judiciary should strengthen their conviction towards delivering judgments that can stand the test of time. They should not allow we politicians to infiltrate their rank, sanity, and capacity to deliver judgments that are internationally sound and can be recognised.”.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has said that no level of sabotage deliberately staged in some quarters will make him abandon the mandate given to him to serve, protect, and advance the fortunes of the state.

Fubara made the assertion on Thursday while declaring open the 115 and 116 combined Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serve with humility, sincerity of purpose, and accountability.

The governor stated, “Although these are trying times, let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend, and advance it as the governor.

“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail, and deliberate sabotage.

“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace, as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”

The governor added that drastic measures will be taken to strengthen education, healthcare, and social services across the state so that no part, including the rural areas, will be left behind.

In advancing these human capital development efforts, the governor emphasised that the 2024 budget of the state will prioritise and provide sufficient funding to create universal access to affordable and quality education and healthcare services in Rivers State.

He added, “We will also take deliberate steps to unlock the entrepreneurial spirit among our teeming unemployed youths through viable initiatives on skills development, entrepreneurship training, and targeted investments in commercial agriculture.”

Meanwhile, Fubara also urged traditional rulers to be upright and royal fathers of integrity who do not compromise their neutrality.

He also enjoined them to be courageous and speak the truth to power so that they do not lose their moral authority and legitimacy before their people.

“We must all be worried about the plight of our youths, especially those in rural communities, most of whom are poor, neglected, and almost forgotten in the government’s development plans, policies, and actions.

“As we all know, no human society can progress without peace and security.
