Edo APC Crisis: Party Members Dare Obaseki, Hold Rally

The order by Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, which forbade political rally in the state was on Saturday, February 1 defiled by faction loyal to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as they held a political rally st Ipoji, Esan West Local Government Area of the state to welcome defectors.

The Governor had earlier given order banning any form of polical rally in the state but this seems no hold water as the camp loyal to the National Chairman held a rally successful and peaceful.

Though the earlier scheduled venue for the rally was changed, it still held in a new venue where fierce looking boys who served as security subjected everyone coming into the venue to thorough screening and searching including journalists who went to cover the rally.

In his speech, factional chairman of the party, Col. David Imuse (Rtd) said the rally was held to welcome new members into the party with a view to increasing the party’s numbers in the state.

“We gather today to increase our figures; to increase the population of the APC; to receive a lot of people into our folds”, he added.

According to him, Aselm Ojezua, factional chairman of the party was running the party like his family affairs and carried out some things that were not in line with the party constitution hence he was suspended.

“The only way we can save the party from total collapse was to remove the chairman. I am saying this so that Esan people can hear.

“That is why we met, fulfill the constitutional requirement, passed vote of no confidence on him and he seize to function in that capacity. We sent our resolution to the national body of the party, they reviewed our procedure, said it was in order, rectified it but did not only removed him, he is suspended from the party. So, as of today, Aselm Ojezua is not a member of the APC”, he added.

Speaking on the violence some of the party members have gone of recently, Imuse urged members to be law abiding and not to go violence way.

He said, “I want to advise everybody that in spite of the violence being perpetrated we should remain calm. We should not be violent; we should not retialate against any form of violence. But I also want to advise those who are members of APC from govt house that the violence perpetrated will not serve the interest of the perpetrators.

“I also want to advise governor Godwin Obeseki to refrain from making statement, utterances, body conduct or body language and actions that will belittle the mightiness of the office of the governor. It is an office that is very well refrend and hold in high esteem and we intend to continue doing so.”

He promised to take the party to a enviable heights where elections would be contested and won.

“Under our leadership, we are going to give the party a new sense of direction. We are going to refocus the party so that we grow from strength to strength and we begin to win election at all times”, he added.

Also speaking, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said the manner at which politics is being played in the party was uncalled for.

Lazio midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is a subject of interest from three Premier League clubs, according to Sky Sports.

Lazio reportedly rejected offers from Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth for the Nigeria international in January.

La Biancolesti are bracing for more interest in Dele-Bashiru ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.

“This contradiction will no longer be tolerated,” the statement said.

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.

Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the initiative reflects a deliberate approach to inclusive growth.

“Inclusive growth requires access to capital and the right conditions for businesses to deploy that capital effectively.

“Women-led enterprises are critical to economic activity, yet they face structural barriers.

This intervention aims to help close that gap by providing financing that supports job creation, business expansion, and long-term sustainability for women entrepreneurs.”

“Access to affordable finance remains a major constraint for women entrepreneurs,” said Nnenna Jacob-Ogogo, Group Head, SheVentures and Impact Segments at First City Monument Bank (FCMB).

“By removing the cost barrier and offering quick, flexible funding, this zero-interest loan is designed to safeguard existing jobs, enable businesses to invest in growth initiatives, and foster resilience in challenging economic conditions.”

Women-owned businesses account for a significant share of Nigeria’s small and medium-sized enterprises but continue to face high borrowing costs and limited access to credit.

Through these efforts, SheVentures tackles persistent financing gaps facing women-led businesses, combining targeted funding with broader support to empower women entrepreneurs, encourage business innovation, and enhance their ability to compete on a national scale.
