Edo Attorney-General Takes Over Prosecution Of Husband Who Allegedly Assaulted Wife

Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. (Mrs.) Yinka Omorogbe, on Monday took over the prosecution of a husband, Osamudiamen Odia, 29, who allegedly assaulted his wife, before an Oredo Magistrates’ court in Benin.

The defendant, on July 26, 2020 at Amagba community, in Benin reportedly intentionally drove his Mercedes ML Jeep recklessly to hit his wife, thereby causing her harm and also slapped her.

It was gathered that the application of taken over by the Attorney-General was as a result of the complainant not been satisfied with  the count charge preferred against the defendant by the police.

Representative of the state Ministry of Justice, State Counsel, Mrs. Evelyn Okhuorobo, presented an application letter signed by  prof. Omorogbe before the court  to take over the case from the Commissioner of Police.

According to the letter, “ By the powers granted to me by  Section 21(1) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I hereby take over COP vs  Osamudiamen  Odia matter.

” Kindly direct that the original case file be forwarded to us for opinion and possible prosecution “

Consequently, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Osifo Ehigiegba adjured the case till Aug. 26, for hearing.

Recalls the state Police had on August 14, arraigned Odia before Magistrate Stephen Ugah of Evboriaria Magistrates’ court, Benin, for allegedly assaulting his wife, Becky Solo.

The case was later transferred to Oredo Magistrates’ court after plea has taken because his court lacks jurisdiction to entertained the case.

However, Ugah granted the defendant bail after he pleaded not guilty to the three count charge; bothering on assault , causing her harm and unlawful damage of her phone preferred against him.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.
