Edo: Be ‘Foot-soldiers,’ ‘Jehovah Witnesses’ To Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition, Ex-Lawmaker Urges Women

A former lawmaker and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, has called on women to be foot-soldiers, political ‘Jehovah witnesses’ and ‘protestants’ for Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition, saying he stands above all other presidential candidates.
Obahiagbon made the call in Benin on Wednesday at a one day Women Summit with the theme: The Role of Women in the Upcoming 2023 Elections.
The submit which was held in collaboration with Tinubu Mandate Coalition was convened by Hon. Omorede Osifo Marshal, APC Deputy National Treasurer.
Obahiagbon, who chaired the submit said it was held with the view to telling people present at the event the philosophy and achievements of the APC presidential ambition, adding that Tinubu has made a lot of sacrifice for the survival of democracy, hence he deserves the number one position.

“When Rome was burning, where were those who are in the political field today? When the symbol of democracy, Chief Moshood Kasimawo Abiola, was murdered by the state, and when the voice of the people was murdered by the military, we had one man who stood and made himself available. He made great sacrifice, gathered pro-democracy force to stand against military oppression. He stood against military oppression to an extent that he had to go on exile.
“Tinubu sacrifices his finances to pursue pro-democracy course. That is the man that is most qualified among all the presidential aspirants. A man who struggled for democracy, a man who gave his life for democratic course.”
According to him, a man like Tinubu who turned the fortune of Lagos economy around within eight years is the type of man Nigeria needs at this period of economic crisis.
“He has had the privilege to serve as a governor of Lagos State. Before he became governor of Lagos State, the state was like a slum, Lagos State was the most dirtiest capital city in the whole world, but as soon as he became governor, we saw how he turned Lagos State around.
“How much was IGR of Lagos State, about N600m, but through his political and financial engineering, the IGR of Lagos today is about N600bn. Giving the economic problems we have today, this is the kind of man we need. With his financial engineering, Nigeria economy with get back on track,” he said.
Earlier, in her welcome address, convener of the submit, Hon. Omorede said the purpose was to bring people of likes mind together so that they can all take the Tinubu’s message to the nooks and crannies of Edo State.
On her part, APC national woman leader, Dr. Beta Edu who was represented by APC National Ex-Officio, South-West zone, Hon. Olubunmi Orinowo, urged women to mobilize for Tinubu.

“No better person than Tinubu; Asiwaju is for women, he is the best candidate for the job,” she added.
In his speech, founder, Tinubu Women and Children Foundation, Prince Adamu Ahmed, said Tinubu would do justice to women’s right if given the opportunity to be president.
“These rights can only be actualised when you have majority of you in leadership. At this junction, I want to assure you that the man who has never been silent in women advocacy and inclusion in governance will do justice the 35 per cent affirmative action and other privileges,” he said.

JUST IN: Why I left ADC For NDC With Kwankwaso – Peter Obi Opens Up

A former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has given reasons why he resigned from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to join the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, alongside a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
In a long post on X on Monday, Obi insisted it was not out of anger or ambition.
Rather, he said the move is a continuation of the quest to build a new Nigeria.
Obi wrote: “Yesterday, I formally joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside my dear brother, Engr. Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with one clear purpose: to continue the struggle for a new Nigeria built on justice, competence, accountability, and compassion for the ordinary Nigerian.

“As I stated yesterday, this decision was not made out of anger, personal ambition, or convenience. It came after deep reflection on the present condition of our nation and the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from the dangerous path it is currently heading.
“Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my conviction that politics should never be about individuals, positions, or personal gain. It must be about the people, especially the millions of Nigerians who today can no longer afford necessities, whose businesses are collapsing, whose children are losing hope, and whose future is becoming increasingly uncertain.
“I left the ADC for the same reason I left the Labour Party: the severe, orchestrated litigation and internal crises deliberately designed to ensure that I, alongside many other notable individuals, do not effectively participate in the electoral process. I sincerely appreciate and remain deeply grateful to the Leadership of ADC for the opportunity to work together in pursuit of a better Nigeria. I am particularly grateful to ADC Chairman Senator David Mark for his exceptional Leadership. I also deeply appreciate my Leader and elder brother YE, Atiku Abubakar, as well as other respected leaders within the party.
“As we join the NDC, I sincerely appeal to the Nigerian Government against the encouragement of unresolved litigations and the infusion of crises within political parties. Democracy must never become a weapon against the people. A healthy democracy thrives on strong institutions, credible alternatives, and the freedom of citizens to make choices without intimidation, manipulation, or fear. Opposition parties must not be weakened or destroyed, because when democracy loses balance, the people ultimately suffer.
“Nigeria today is passing through one of the most difficult periods in its history. Poverty is rising. Hunger is widespread. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. Businesses are shutting down daily. Our young people are becoming discouraged, and many citizens have lost faith in the system. At a time like this, leadership must be driven not by propaganda or division, but by competence, capacity, character, and compassion.

“Our decision to join the NDC is therefore not an abandonment of values, but a continuation of the same mission we have always stood for: building a Nigeria where leadership is about service, where public resources are managed responsibly, where institutions function independently, and where every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion, region, or social status, can live with dignity, security, and hope.
“I remain committed to working with all Nigerians of goodwill across political, ethnic, and religious lines. The task before us is bigger than any individual or political party. It is about the future of our children and the survival of our dear nation.
“I thank Nigerians, especially our youths and women, for remaining peaceful, resilient, and hopeful despite the enormous challenges confronting the country. I urge you not to lose faith in Nigeria. Nations do not change because people surrender to hopelessness; they change because people continue to believe, continue to sacrifice, and continue to stand for what is right.”
