Edo CP, Other Top Officers Rescue Two Policemen From Being Lynched By Angry Residents

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, on Friday morning rescued two policemen from being attacked by angry residents at the Obakhavbaye junction, near Oba Market Road, Benin City.

The angry residents in hundreds held a policeman hostage, out of the five policemen that collected a phone and the sum of N10,000 from a young boy.

It was gathered that the policemen forcefully collected the boy’s android phone and the sum of N10,000 at TV Road in Benin City.

It was further gathered that the policemen, after much resistance from the boy, abandoned the Lexus Jeep and the occupants at the Obakhavbaye Street Junction of Oba Market Road and zoomed off with the phone and the money.

Trouble, however, started when one of the policemen was unfortunately left behind.

In solidarity with the boy and his sister, traders, passers-by and other residents, held the policeman hostage promising to release him when his colleagues return the android phone and the money.

The scene, was however, tensed up, when one of the policemen came back trying to forcefully rescue his colleague.

A threat by the policeman who came to rescue his colleague to shoot at the crowd further infuriated the resilient residents, who insisted that the policemen must produce the items before allowing him to go.

The policeman, was, however, also held hostage by the residents along with his colleague.

The crowd who comdenmed the action of the policemen noted that if urgent steps were not taken by the state government and the police authorities, another round of #Endsars protest is inevitable.

As tension continue to gathered memontum, Commissioner of Police in the state, Philip Ogbadu, stormed the scene with his men.

Ogbadu, who calmed the angry residents down, however, handed over the items to the young boy and his senior brother, who owned the vehicle.

After the Commissioner’s intervention, the officers were seen at the Oba Market discussing the incident.

The policeman that was held hostage after the incident, was heard explaining to his colleagues why he was unable to escape with them immediately after the incident.

Narrating what transpired between him and the policemen to the angry residents, the young boy said the police policemen numbering five in a dark colour Sienna vehicle with no registration number stopped his Lexus Jeep with registration number Edo RRU 350 NE at TV Road he was driving and collected his android phone and the sum of N10,000.

According to him, “they stopped me at TV Road. Immediately they stopped the vehicle I was riding in company of my sisters, they took my android phone and N10,000.

“They demanded for my vehicle documents on which I presented to them. Having found the documents to be completed, they still entered the vehicle. They didn’t tell me my ofense. Probably, they think I was into internet fraud.

“They also destroyed one of my sister’s phone”, he said.

the policemen who were five in number said they were from the Anti-cultism unit of the Edo State Police Command headquarters, Benin City.

19-year-old Convicted For Dating, Impregnating 14-year-old Sister

A 19-year-old man arraigned before Mutawatawa magistrate on charges of having sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old sister in Uzumba, Zimbabwe, has been convicted.

It was gathered that in January 2023, the 19-year-old man decided to take things a notch up bizarrely as he chatted with his sister. He asked his sister to be his girlfriend. Strangely, the 14-year-old admitted to feeling the same way for her brother.

The two decided to hit it off and start dating. They decided to keep their relationship under wraps, knowing how much trouble it would attract if ever known.

During their relationship, the 19-year-old man convinced his sister to have sex with him. She agreed, and the two did the act on different occasions, both at home and in the garden. However, the girl later got pregnant and this was noticed by their grandmother.

Upon being questioned, she revealed her brother was responsible. The grandmother reported the case to the police, leading to the 19-year-old man’s arrest for incest. He appeared in a Mutawatawa Court, where the Magistrate sentenced him to 14 months in jail. Two months were struck off, and he will serve an effective 12 months.

75-year Old Man Arrested For Defiling 8-year-old Girl In Anambra

A 75-year-old barber, Nwankwo Nweke has been arrested for defiling an 8-year-old girl in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The suspect, who hails from Isi Agu in Awka South Local Government Area of the state, confessed to the crime, claiming that ‘temptation that made him have carnal knowledge of the girl.’

The suspect pleaded for mercy and promised to be of good behaviour if the state government pardoned him.

The parents of the victim, Mr John and Mrs Ogochukwu Ugwuanyi explained that they sent their child to get something at a nearby shop around 7pm. When she came back they noticed the items weren’t complete and asked her to return to the shop after which they started looking for her.

The parents stated that they quickly went to the shop to look for her but didn’t see her which prompted them to raise alarm over her sudden disappearance in the neighborhood.

Unknown to them, the suspect had already taken her to his house and told her not to answer her name.

They revealed that the suspect, who at the time was their neighbour, pushed the 8-year-old out of his room when he felt the search was over.

On how they knew what transpired between their daughter and the suspect, Mr and Mrs Ugwuanyi said that when their daughter finally came back that night, they questioned her to know what happened.

She told them that the suspect lured her to his house with a promise to give her mango.

They noted that it was at that point that they involved security operatives before taking their child to the hospital.

Outrage As Masquerades Brutally Flog Nurse Until She Falls In Gutter In Enugu [PHOTOS]

A video of masquerades beating up a female nurse in Enugu has shocked viewers and sparked calls for justice.

The victim, identified as Blessing Ogbonna, was on her way to work at a private hospital in Nsukka when she was attacked on Sunday, April 28.

She was dressed in her nursing uniform and was riding on a motorcycle when the masquerades began flogging her until she fell from the bike and landed on the floor.

Even after she fell, they continued flogging her.

She stood and ran but the masquerades refused to let go and they went after her and continued beating her until she fell into a gutter.

Passersby, who had tried to intervene when she was getting flogged, stepped in and pulled her out of the drainage after the flogging.

The video has sparked calls for the offending masquerades in the video to be disciplined.
