Edo Deputy Gov To Christian Community: Expect Success Stories From Okpebholo’s Administration

Edo State deputy governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on Thursday told Christians to expect success stories from the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo based on the resolve to keep true to the campaign promises of using good governance to promote the kingdom of God.

The deputy governor who stated this while playing host to Rev. Fr. Raphael Anojie, the Parish Priest, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, said the body of Christ had a good story to tell based on the ability of the christian community to produce the present governor and his deputy.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Friday Aghedo, Anojie was accompanied by members of the Parish Church Council (PCC), and select landlords of the street, in a courtesy call to the deputy governor on Thursday.

Idahosa noted that the governor and himself were not nominal but practising Christians who were out to do the body of Christ proud in Edo State.

He requested for prayers and support from Christians, the church and the people of the state to be able to finish well as this administration was poised to ensure good governance and adherence to the rule of law in society.

He maintained that the body of Christ in Edo state would be strengthened under the present administration of Okpebholo, who is bent on creating success stories in every facet of the society.

Idahosa promised to give feedback to his principal based on areas of needs of the Holy Trinity Catholic community, adding that he would be with them at their upcoming “Feast Day” on June 15.

Anojie, who had earlier commended the deputy governor for fulfilling his campaign commitment to the Church, presented him with a customised card on behalf of the church.

He observed that the visitation to the office of the deputy governor was divine for both the church, which is 40 years in existence and its host community, Nomayo Street, which is in dire need of road rehabilitation.

He stated that true to the traditional role of the church which acts as the vanguard and voice for the people, the Holy Trinity Catholic Church is about to build a cottage school for learning and empowerment of children within the community.

He thanked Hon. Idahosa and his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC,) for their commitment to the development of the state.

In related development, representatives of Sokponba Communities of Orhionmwon Local Government Area led by its Chairman, Godfrey Ogbonmwan, also met with and presented documents to the deputy governor, to expedite action on reclaiming and getting full benefits of oil wells located within their communities which they claimed have been seized by Seplat PLC and other oil companies.

NERC Transfers Regulation Of Electricity Market To Bayelsa

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Bayelsa State to the Bayelsa Electricity Regulatory Agency.

In a notice on its social media handles on Monday, the commission said this was in compliance with the amended 1999 Constitution and the Electricity Act 2023.

In compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued an order to transfer regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Bayelsa State from the Commission to the Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency,” the commission said.

Recall that with the Electricity Act 2023, the commission retains the role as a central regulator with regulatory oversight on the interstate/international generation, transmission, supply, trading, and system operations.

The Act also mandates any state that intends to establish and regulate intrastate electricity markets to deliver a formal notification of its processes and requests NERC to transfer regulatory authority over electricity operations in the state to the state regulator.

The transfer order by NERC directed Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company Plc to incorporate a subsidiary distribution company to assume responsibilities for intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Bayelsa State from PHED.

PHED was also directed to complete the incorporation of PHED SubCo within 60 days from August 21, 2025.

The subcompany shall apply for and obtain a licence for the intrastate supply and distribution of electricity from BYERA, among other directives,” the commission said.

It concluded that all transfers envisaged by the order shall be completed by February 20, 2026.

With this order, Bayelsa has joined states like Lagos, Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, Niger, Edo, Oyo and Plateau, which have got the power to regulate electricity markets.

The state can now generate, transmit, and distribute electricity while issuing licences to investors within the value chain.

Things To Know As INEC Begins Physical Voter Registration Monday

The Independent National Electoral Commission commenced the physical, in-person phase of its 2025 Continuous Voter Registration exercise across Nigeria today, Monday, August 25.

This follows the online pre-registration that commenced on August 18, 2025.

In an update on its X handle on Monday, the commission provided details of the schedule, locations, and eligibility of voters.

INEC said in-person registration will run Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and urged eligible Nigerians to complete their registration at INEC state or local government offices in their area.

New voters aged 18 and above who have not registered before.

Holders needing to replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

DSS Issues Warning, Arrests Man For Circulating Fake Recruitment Materials

The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclosed the arrest of one Mr. Eze Ezenwa Benard, who was recently apprehended for circulating fake DSS recruitment past questions and answers on Facebook.

The agency, while warning the public in a statement on Saturday, said the suspect operated through a page known as “Jobs and Education”, where he advertised the fraudulent materials and charged unsuspecting members of the public one thousand naira (N1,000) for access.

The public is hereby cautioned to disregard any materials, as the DSS does not sell or distribute recruitment questions, answers, or examination guides through private individuals or social media pages. Recruitment into the Service, when necessary, follows specialised procedure in accordance with extant laws and due process,” the statement reads.

Continuing, DSS said Ezenwa’s arrest underscores the Service’s determination to safeguard Nigerians from the fraudulent schemes of unpatriotic elements. “Citizens are therefore encouraged to remain vigilant, verify information from official sources and report suspicious recruitment adverts or individuals attempting to extort money under false pretense.”

The agency assured that it will continue to protect the integrity of its recruitment process while ensuring that perpetrators of fraud face the full weight of the law.
