A socio-political group, Indomitable Youth Organization, (IYO), says it may take a peace pact form to the offices of the various governorship candidates in the forthcoming election, who were invited before it but failed to turn up to sign it.
Project Director of the group and convener, ‘Edo Peace Rally’, Dr. Bright Oniovokuko, said this in Benin during a sensitisation rally for a peaceful election in the state.
He said the peace pact form is to elicit commitment from the governorship candidates before the September 19 election, adding that their assurance to their electorate to maintain peace before, during, and after the election will help douse the political tension that has already reached a fever stage in the state.

“Again, we have also sent message to the governorship candidates for them to come, they will just sign ‘I Stand For Peace’
“If they don’t show up, we may decide to probably take the banner that has been signed by others, we can also take it to locate them but we expect that they will surely come up especially the major political parties”, Dr. Oniovokuko said.
Oniovokuko said while they are calling on the governorship candidates for a peace pact, the parents and guardians must also play their roles in ensuring a peaceful poll in the state by warning them against any act capable of truncating peace.

“And lastly, I want to call on parents, guardians and other stakeholders, they should talk to their people, call them to order, especially in this era of election that everybody should embrace peace because we know that Edo people’s lives matter to enjoy the dividends of democracy, we must all be alive”, he said.
