The Edo State Government and the opposite Peoples Democratic Party in the state on Tuesday engaged in war of words over alleged missing machine and sinking of $10 million in the state-owned newspaper -The Nigerian Observer under the immediate-past governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki.
Governor Monday Okpebholo, in a press statement signed by Fred Itua, his Chief Press Secretary, hinted his administration’s to probe the sinking of $10 million.
The governor was said to have given the hint when he led top officials of his administration on an unscheduled visit to the premises of the Observer titles to inspect facilities on ground.
The governor and his entourage were said to have been shocked as they could not gain access to the buildings where all the machines purportedly bought by the previous administration were kept.

He blamed Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie as well as the Publicity Secretary, Edo PDP Caretaker Committee and former Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare As the architects of the whole thing.
Okpebholo, who was said not to be happy with what he saw, promised to revisit the premises again to inspect the buildings and see for himself the machines Obaseki claimed to have bought with tax payers money.
Speaking on the development, the governor said: “I was in the premises of The Observer Newspaper company to see for myself the money claimed to have been spent by the former governor, Godwin Obaseki on revamping the State owned media outfit.
“The former governor claimed to have used $10 million to revamp the newspaper house just before election. Everywhere was locked because there was nothing inside, I could not even see a cleaner in the premises as those we met on the ground were not those working there.
“I need to be there again myself, and I need to inspect the buildings housing the equipment bought by the previous administration led by Godwin Obaseki. I will check inside the buildings myself to be sure that the machines are there. I can’t really say for now if there are machines there because I couldn’t go inside. If the place was working, people would have been there, especially considering the resources spent there.

“Edo people need to ask what happened to their money spent in revamping The Observer Newspaper. I am here as their governor to provide them with the answers. Hence, the visit to the organization became necessary.”
But in a swift response, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the immediate past Communications and Orientation Commissioner in the state urged Edo people to ask the CPS to the governor, Fred Itua, the newspaper General Manager, Oboh and the current Commissioner for Information and Communications the whereabouts of the machine then previous government bought For the use of the state-owned newspaper.
Nehikhare, who happens to the Publicity Secretary,
Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, said: “Okpebholo will need to be briefed by his Commissioner for Information, Chief Press Secretary, General Manager of the Nigerian Observer, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication on whether they have sold the equipment they inspected and took custody of on that day.”

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has slammed politicians promising to serve only one term in office.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said any politician pledging to serve only one term in office needs to undergo a psychiatric test.
Soludo stated this on Saturday during a political rally held in Anambra South in support of his second-term ambition.
The governor questioned the logic behind such a promise, insisting that the Nigerian Constitution allows elected public officials to serve two terms, not just one.

“How can anybody with a functioning brain say that? Do you think you’re speaking to fools?
“You come to people and say you will do only one term, any politician who says that must be sent to a psychiatric home because the person must have some mental problem,” Soludo said.
This is coming a month after Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State called for a single-term tenure of six years.
Also, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said he is willing to accept a one-term presidency in the spirit of equity and zoning.

He stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on Sunday, July 6.
The former Governor of Anambra State said four years is enough for any serious and sincere leader to make an impact.
He said, “One term is enough to establish that good governance is possible, and if they can impact negatively on us for just two years, why won’t someone achieve a lot in four years?

“It’s also to respect the gentleman’s agreement of zoning, which has been a stabilising factor even though it’s not in our constitution.
“I don’t need a day more than four years. I will show the direction of good governance. In two years, there has been maximum damage.
“Two years can change it in a good direction. People want to get up and see a president who cares and shows compassion.”

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been “purchased” by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Melaye made the allegation while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday night, a day after submitting his resignation letter to PDP.
According to him, the opposition party receives dates for its National Executive Committee, NEC, meetings directly from the Presidential Villa.
“PDP has been purchased by the APC. The PDP is a parastatal of the APC. In fact, they take dates for NEC meetings and NWC from Aso Villa. Look at these PDP governors, are they acting as opposition? And you know how powerful governors are,” Melaye said
