Edo: Gunmen Hijack 18-seater Bus, Sienna Carrying Naval College Students

Passengers of an 18-seater bus and a Sienna bus conveying students of Naval College of Engineering, Sapele have been whisked away by unknown gunmen.

The victims were reportedly ambushed and kidnapped while returning from Kaduna State to Sapele, Delta State.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, in Edo State, SP Kotongs Bello told newsmen that the kidnapped Naval Collage students have been rescued.

He added that five of them are, however, still with the kidnappers inside the bush.

“These hoodlums were intercepted at Irukpen, our operatives rescued most of them.

“Out of the two buses, only five students are remaining, all others have been rescued.

“The command is working hard to ensure the remaining five students are also rescued unhurt,” he said.

Police Arrest Father, Siblings For Beating Last-born To Death In Imo

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed that a family of four in Umuduruihiako Umueze ll in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state conspired and beat their youngest brother, Chukwuebuka Osundu to death.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that a father and two siblings reportedly killed and buried their brother in a shallow grave for being stubborn.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Hussaini Rabiu, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday said the command’s operatives with the support of the community were able to arrest two suspects, Lambert Osundu and Racheal Osundu.

He said presently, they are undergoing interrogation and have made useful statements that will lead to the arrest of the other family members on the run.

The CP, while condemning the killing of the young man in its entirety, said following credible information received by the command, he immediately dispatched detectives to the alleged scene of the crime.

According to him, “On arrival, the command’s operatives based on intelligence, interrogated one Robert Anyanwu, Chairman of Umuezealagwu Umuduruekwe in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State.

“It was revealed that on 14/9/2021 at about 1200 hour, the Osundu family comprising of Lambert Osundu, Ndubuisi Osundu and Rachael Osundu, female, all of Umuduruihiako Umueze ll in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo State, conspired and beat their youngest brother, Chukwuebuka Osundu “M” aged 20 years to death for yet to be confirmed reason(s).

“After killing him, the father of the deceased with the assistance of Ndubuisi Osundu carried the lifeless body to the back of their compound, dug a shallow grave, and secretly buried the corpse. When the villagers asked the family about their son’s whereabouts, they told them that he has travelled to Ghana to seek greener pastures.”

The CP advised members of the public not to take laws into their hands rather, they should allow justice to prevail. He assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.

Suspected Herdsmen Abduct Pregnant Woman, Two Others, Demand N30m Ransom

Suspected Fulani herdsmen were said to have kidnapped a pregnant woman and two others in Ogun, demanding a ransom of N30 million.

DAILY POST gathered that the abductees were taken away on Sunday evening along Igbo-Ora-Sokoto road, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The victims had paid a visit to their friend who resides at Rounder area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

A source informed that the kidnappers laid an ambush for three persons at an area known as Karigo, saying the pregnant woman is in her eighth month.

According to him, the herdsmen had contacted the families of the victims on Tuesday, asking them to pay N10 million each for their release.

It was said that two other persons on the trip escaped when the kidnappers accosted them.

“We got information that at the abattoir in Rounda that kidnappers abducted three persons.

“The kidnappers did not call immediately but they called on Tuesday, asking for N10 million on each victim as ransom. There is a pregnant woman among them, who would soon give birth,” the source said.

“It was gathered that the victims parked their car because the road is bad, but while trekking, they were ambushed by their kidnapers

“The abductees were two women and one man, identified as Baba Sandra.

“One of them is a thrift collector in the market here (Itoku market ); one is a civil servant but we don’t know where the other one works,” it was learnt.

“The husband of the pregnant woman was one of the two that escaped being kidnapped,” the source informed

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident.

However, Oyeyemi said the victims had organised a prayer session in the forest where they were captured.

“Since that very day, our people have been on their trail. In fact, while I was discussing with the OC (Officer in-charge), they were still in the bush in that area trying to get all those people.

“But, our people should also be careful, they should stop organising prayers inside the forest,” he said.

Activities At Edo Police Command Grounded As Retired Senior Police Officers Protest Poor Renumeration

Retired senior police officers in Benin on Tuesday protested over alleged poor remuneration, just as they called on the police authority to remove them from the police contributing pension scheme to the old scheme benefit of the police force.

The senior police officers protest at the Edo State Police Command brought to a halt activities at the Command for hours.

The protesting police officers said they deserved better treatment after giving their productive years to the service of Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting senior citizens, Chairman of the Edo State Police Senior Officers Retirees, Anthony Nnachor, said police retirees remain the least paid among all the security agencies in Nigeria.

The retired Superintendent of Police (SP) said that the police is the lead security agency in Nigeria yet welfare of Police officers is not being properly catered for.

He alleged that their promotion allowance for 2017 and resettlement allowances have not been paid till date, a situation he described as the “highest form of injustice and inhuman treatment.”

He appealed to the Federal Government to review the police scheme and return their pension scheme to the police-defined benefit of the old.

Responding to the protesters, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations Edo State Command, Mr Miller Dantawaye, said the current serving policemen share from their pains.

He maintained that the Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu would channel their grievance to the police force headquarters in Abuja.
