The Executive Chairman of Esan North-East Local Government Area, of Edo State, Mr. Paul m Uhomesili, has announced the immediate suspension of all scrap metal dealer activities in Uromi and Uzea communities.

In a statement issued by Oriwoh Henry, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, the council warned that anyone found scavenging for scrap metals from April 22, 2025, will be regarded as acting illegally.

This decision, according to the council, comes in response to growing concerns from residents who allege that many of these dealers are involved in criminal activities beyond their trade, including vandalism and theft.

Residents have accused scrap metal dealers of not only scavenging from refuse heaps for electric cables, disused plastics, metals, but also breaking into homes and public facilities to vandalize properties in search of metal materials.

This action has become necessary due to reports of vandalization of both government, public and individuals’ cables, wires, and properties,” Mr. Uhomesili stated.
