Edo: Police Kill Suspected Armed Robber, Arrest One, Recover Weapons

The Edo State Police Command says its men on Wednesday, January 4th, killed a suspected armed robber belonging to a robbery gang and arrested another in a gun duel at Ugbor axis of Benin City.

This is contained in a statement e-signed by SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Command Public Relations Officer and made available to newsmen electronically in Benin City on Thursday.

According to the statement, the police successfully carried out the gun engagement with assistance from the Edo State Security Network personnel.

Nwabuzor, in the statement noted that one cut-to-size gun and two cartridges were recovered from the robbery gang.

While stating that the arrested robbery suspect, 19-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, the statement added that “body of the deceased armed robber, whose name is yet unknown, has been deposited at Stella Obasanjo mortuary in the State.”

Assuring Edo people of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Dankwara’s commitment to keeping the state safe from crimes and violence, the statement noted: “The CP equally assures the public that the Command is committed to keeping the state safe from crimes and violence.

“He reitrates his commitments to arrest perpretrtors of voilent crimes and other offences and prosecute them accordingly.”

The statement continued: “The Commissioner of Police, Edo Police Command, CP Muhammed A.Dankwara, who is pleased to note
that no Police Officer were injured during the operation, sends
appreciation to the members of the public whose timely and
accurate information led to the successful operation.”

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have reportedly snatched ballot papers meant to be used for local government elections in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo state.

DAILY POST gathered that the ballot papers were hijacked by the hoodlums in the early hours of Friday.

The ballot papers are to be used in the local government election slated for Saturday.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, is conducting the election in all the 33 local government areas in the state.

A source noted that the snatched ballot papers have been recovered from the suspects.

He added that about 14 suspects have been arrested.

The source who bagged not to be named, also revealed that the affected ballot papers have been taken back to Ibadan.

OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, when contacted, confirmed the attack on electoral officials.

He, however, said that no ballot paper was snatched.

Olagunju, in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST on Friday, maintained that the Divisional Police Officer in the town has been mandated to arrest the suspects.

“That is not true. The fact is that there was an attack on our officials last night.

“Our officials were attacked at our office at Okeho. No ballot paper was snatched.

“In fact, the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies followed our EO to come back to Ibadan. They just went back to Okeho now. And we have directed the DPO of Okeho to arrest the suspects. That is what happened.”

BREAKING: Scores Trapped As Building Collapses In Kano

Yet-to-be ascertained number of people are currently trapped in the rubble of a building which collapsed in the Kuntau area of Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Sources said at least eleven persons are trapped under the rubble, mostly workers.

Excavation is currently ongoing while some corpses have been recovered.

PHOTOS: FCCPC Raids Supermarkets In Port Harcourt, Seizes Underweight, Re-bagged Rice

Operatives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC on April 25, raided supermarkets in Port Harcourt, seizing underweight and re-bagged rice.

The commission disclosed this on its X handle.

It wrote:‘’FCCPC’s South-South Zonal Office conducted a routine enforcement operation in some supermarkets in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, targeting underweight and re-bagged rice. Products that were suspected to be substandard were evacuated for further investigation.”
