Edo Sports Festival Platform For Talents Discovery, Says Enabulele

The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has said that the upcoming Edo State Sports Festival is designed to serve as a platform for young athletes in the state to excel both nationally and internationally.

In a statement made available to newsmen by his media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the sports commission boss was said to have spoken on Thursday in Benin when he held a meeting with the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Lucky Eseigbe.

Enabulele, while noting in the statement noting in the statement that the festival aligns with the sports development plan of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, said it will also help prepare athletes for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, slated for May 16th to 30th, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It is essential to ensure that this event helps maintain our position as a sports powerhouse in the country,” Hon. Enabulele stated.

He expressed confidence that many promising talents would be discovered and nurtured through the Edo State Sports Festival.

“These untapped talents will play a significant role in our state’s future success,” he added.

Enabulele urged Barr. Eseigbe to galvanize support from the acting chairmen across the 18 local government councils, and also to ensure athletes receive the best possible support.

Responding, Eseigbe assured Enabulele of his unwavering support, pledging to engage all stakeholders across the LGAs to ensure the success of the sports festival.

INFO DAILY reports that the sports festival is scheduled to hold from April 21st to May 1st, 2025.

Bendel Insurance have announced the departure of 25 players ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season.

Captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, Austin Ogunye, and Bernard Ovoke are among the top stars who have left the Benin Arsenal.

Other key players, who left the club are Moses Abioye, Uche Collins, Michael Enaruna, and Uche Collins.

Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha recently hosted his former Super Eagles coach, Clemens Westerhof, at his Lagos home.

Westerhof, who posted photos from the visit on Instagram on Friday, called it an “unforgettable night of my life” and thanked Okocha for his warm hospitality.

Westerhof, a Dutch national, managed the Nigerian national team from 1989 to 1994.

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has again told his Italian side, Atalanta, about his desire to leave this summer.
