EFCC Arraigns Fake American Engineer Over €120,150 Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arraigned one Wilson Daphey, (aka Jefrey Guiseppe) before Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on a nine-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretense and money laundering.

Daphey allegedly manipulated and obtained the sum £120,150 from one Ms Petra Goschenhofer with the assistance of Evans Nnamdi Aguh, Christopher Chinedu Ajufo, Ifeanyi Enuma and Ojinanaka Kingsley Chukwuma, all of whom are currently at large.

Count two of the charge reads,
That you, WILSON DAPHEY (AKA JEFREY GUISEPPE) between November 2018 and December 2019 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud over the internet, presented yourself to one Ms Petra Goschenhofer whom you met on Instagram as American Civil Engineer who lives in Rome but currently (end of September/beginning of October 2018) in Dubai for a construction project, and in that assumed character obtained a total of sum of €69,880 and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 22 (2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015”

Count seven reads: “That you, WILSON DAPHEY (AKA JEFREY GUISPPE) between 15 January, 2020 and 28 January, 2021 at Abuja within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, took possession of the sum of N10.5 million in your Guaranty Trust Bank PLC account no: 0259574242 which you reasonably ought to have known to be proceeds of an unlawful act to wit: obtaining money by false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 as amended by the Money Laundering (Prohibition)Act 2012 and punishable under section 15(3) of the same Act”.

The defendant pleaded `not guilty` to all the charges.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Deborah Ademu-Eteh, prayed the court for a trial date and the remand of the defendant.

The defence counsel, E.O Clement, however moved the bail application of the defendant.

Justice Olajuwon adjourned the matter till May 17, for ruling on bail application while the defendant remains in EFCC custody.

Outrage As Masquerades Brutally Flog Nurse Until She Falls In Gutter In Enugu [PHOTOS]

A video of masquerades beating up a female nurse in Enugu has shocked viewers and sparked calls for justice.

The victim, identified as Blessing Ogbonna, was on her way to work at a private hospital in Nsukka when she was attacked on Sunday, April 28.

She was dressed in her nursing uniform and was riding on a motorcycle when the masquerades began flogging her until she fell from the bike and landed on the floor.

Even after she fell, they continued flogging her.

She stood and ran but the masquerades refused to let go and they went after her and continued beating her until she fell into a gutter.

Passersby, who had tried to intervene when she was getting flogged, stepped in and pulled her out of the drainage after the flogging.

The video has sparked calls for the offending masquerades in the video to be disciplined.

Mother Of Four Hacked To Death By Neighbour, Son In Edo

A mother of four, Mrs Nata Igbinovia, was hacked to death by her neighbour and his son while trying to intervene in a fight.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Okpagha-Ewuare, a community on the outskirts of Benin City, Edo State.

Patience, the deceased’s daughter, said the incident occurred when her mother intervened in a dispute between her cousin and the neighbours.

Speaking to newsmen, Patience said the suspects resorted to using a knife and an axe to take her life.

“As he went to bring the small dagger, the son brought an axe that they usually use to split firewood. As he wanted to stab my cousin brother, my mom intervened, and that’s when the knife ended up in her hand.

“As my mom fell to the ground near their gate, the man took the axe and struck her back. While he was doing that, he took the opportunity to stab my mom in her side ribs,” she said.

She added that upon witnessing the lifeless body of her mother on the ground, the culprits escaped the scene.

She stated that a nearby neighbour heard about the occurrence and brought a vehicle to transport her to the hospital.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, said the investigation is ongoing.

He identified the suspect as Philip Ayo and said he had been arrested.

When asked why the son, who was reportedly involved in the suspected murder, was not arrested, he said the detective would determine that after the investigation

He will be charged to court shortly after the public holiday,” he added

Police Foil Cult Initiation In Edo, Arrest 35 Suspects

Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Edo State Police Command have foiled a cult initiation and arrested 35 suspected cultists in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, said the arrest followed an intelligence report that some students suspected to be members of the Vikings cult group converged on an undisclosed location for the initiation ceremony.

The PPRO said an anti-cult team carried out the operations on April 27 and 28, 2024.

The statement reads: “In continuation of the Edo State Police Commands’ onslaught against cult activities in Edo State, the operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command on Saturday 27th April 2024 stormed the city of Ekpoma after an intelligence report that some students suspected to be members of Vikings secret cult confraternity who converged in an undisclosed place in Ekpoma to carry out initiation process of some new members where in the process 35 cultists were arrested,” the state.

“The operations were carried out simultaneously between the 27th and 28th day of April 2024.

“The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, mni reiterates the command’s commitments to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizenry.

“He assures the good people of Edo State and the general public to always assist the Police with actionable information that will lead to achievements.
