EFCC Releases Ex-Speaker After Three Days

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Patricia Etteh, has been released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

She was released Friday night after fulfilling bail conditions, according to a statement on Saturday.

Etteh was arrested on May 17 over suspicious and shady financial involvement with Phil Jin Projects Limited.

EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, in
the statement, said Etteh would report to the commission periodically to assist further investigations.

Part of the statement titled, ‘Patricia Etteh Released’, read, “Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on suspicious and shady financial involvement with Phil Jin Projects Limited, has been released by the Commission.

“She was released on Friday, May 20, 2022 upon fulfilling bail conditions offered her by investigators working on her matter. She is to report periodically to assist further investigations.”

VIDEO: Lagos Uncovers Another Under-bridge Apartment

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Thursday, said the state government uncovered an illegal settlement under the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Wahab shared this information via a post on X.com on Thursday, along with videos.

Sharing a video, the commissioner wrote, “Another illegal settlement was discovered under the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi.

“Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) commenced immediate clearance operation.”

This comes shortly after reports from PUNCH detailed a similar find under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants were reportedly paying annual rents of N250,000.

Wahab specified that the under-bridge apartment comprised 86 partitioned rooms, varying in size from “10×10” to “12×10”.

The Nigeria Police Force said its operatives have arrested one Ibrahim Abdullahi, aka Mandi, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the March 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack, The Will reports Thursday.

JUST IN: Crisis In UniAbuja As ASUU Faction Declares Indefinite Strike

The University of Abuja branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike.

The union announced its decision on Thursday during a congress held at the permanent site of the institution.

Sylvanus Ugoh, the chairman of UniAbuja ASUU, did not immediately respond to TheCable’s inquiries on the development.

But Abubakar Kari, the UniAbuja student affairs dean and ex-convener of ASUU’s national political committee, said the varsity’s branch of the union issued a communique declaring “total and indefinite strike” over a lingering disagreement with the UniAbuja management.

The dispute, he said, borders on four issues including ASUU’s interest in a multi-stakeholder microfinance banking venture, promotion procedures in the absence of a governing council, election for faculty deanship, and alleged illegal appointments.
