EPL: Why Man Utd May Not appoint Ten Hag As Next Manager Revealed

Published

on

Manchester United’s board has two major concerns about hiring Ajax’s Erik Ten Hag as their next permanent manager after interviewing him, the UK Independent reports.

The Dutchman spoke to United officials last month and immediately became the favourite for the job at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag’s interview raised concerns with United’s board for two reasons.

First, he was said to have “not blown people away”, because of a lack of charisma.

Ten Hag spoke to Tottenham Hotspur last summer but lost out on the job as chairman Daniel Levy also felt he did not have a strong personality.

The second concern was Ten Hag’s lack of Premier League experience.

United are worried about appointing a manager from the Netherlands, as they’ve been scarred in the past with signings from Holland.

The Red Devils have spent a combined £70m on Donny van de Beek and Memphis Depay in recent years and neither player has been able to replicate the form they showed in their homeland in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, it’s said Ten Hag is still the favourite for the job at Old Trafford but his interview has left a window of opportunity for challengers like Pochettino.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper was expected to compete for the number one position with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, but he made just 11 Premier League appearances over the two seasons.

However, while the arrival of Alonso to Stamford Bridge could lead to a change in fortunes for Jorgensen, the report added that the Danish star has already expressed his desire to leave Chelsea this summer to get more regular playing game-time elsewhere.

Chelsea had blocked a potential exit for Jorgensen in the January transfer window, but the Premier League west London club are now open to a sale, with European and English clubs expected to explore a deal for the goalkeeper.

“People might look at Kobbie Mainoo but I don’t think he’s improved. It was just the fact he wasn’t playing under the former manager so it wasn’t good or bad.”
