EPL: Cole Palmer Told To Leave Chelsea

Published

on

Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend has urged Cole Palmer to leave Stamford Bridge to ‘rediscover his game’.

There are rumours suggesting that the English forward may leave the Blues, with Manchester United being mentioned as a potential destination.

During his inaugural season at Chelsea, Palmer achieved an impressive tally of 42 goal involvements and scored an additional 18 goals last season, aiding the Blues in their qualification for the Champions League and their triumphs in the Club World Cup and Conference League.

The England international has also reached double figures this season; however, his struggle to regain his peak form has raised concerns about his place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer.

Reports suggest that Palmer is currently feeling unsettled at Chelsea.

Townsend stated to BetVictor, “First and foremost, Cole Palmer needs to rediscover his game. The difference between where he was a year ago and where he is now is significant.

“He requires something. I sense that Cole is looking around the team and asking, ‘Who’s inspiring me? Who’s motivating me? Who’s truly there to fight alongside me?’

“There aren’t many at Chelsea. I believe Joao Pedro is a genuine talent. His performance at Villa Park earlier this season was among the best I’ve witnessed from a striker this season. It was outstanding.

“Enzo [Fernandez] appears to be already laying the groundwork for a departure, based on recent comments and actions.

Thus, with Cole, the issue may arise at a club like Chelsea where there is constant movement; he might eventually feel that he is the one who needs to leave.

“If you continually see better players arriving and then departing, or the finest young talents being sold for profit, it can lead to frustration over time.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if, at some point, should things not improve swiftly, he decides: ‘I think I might have to seek opportunities elsewhere’.”

Chelsea currently sit ninth in the Premier League as they prepare for their upcoming match against current Premier League champions, Liverpool.
