Ex-Bank Manager Bags 18 Years In Prison After Using Customer’s N219m For Houses, Ponzi

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday secured the conviction of a former manager with Sterling Bank.

The convict, Oliver Anidiobi, was the Account Relationship Officer of OHHA Microfinance Bank.

Justice C. O. Ajah of the Enugu State High Court in Enugu sentenced him after a 32-count charge prosecution.

The charges bordered on forgery and stealing to the tune of N219million.

The defendant, arraigned on Tuesday May, 7, 2019, used his position to convince the Microfinance Bank to deposit the said sum through him.

He put the money in a fixed deposit account and forged a deposit certificate to deceive the microfinance bank, while he diverted the funds for personal use.

Anidiobi built a block of 5 flats, acquired several plots of land along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, an uncompleted four bedroom bungalow at Centenary Estate, Enugu.

He further made an investment of N65million in a Ponzi Scheme called “Let’s Partner with You” owned by one Patrick Nwokike.

Prosecution counsel Michael Ani, presented 5 witnesses and tendered 75 exhibits while the defendant testified for himself.

Justice Ajah held that Anidiobi did not deny nor challenge the allegations made by the EFCC.

“Any evidence not challenged is admitted as true. I am duty bound to establish the evidence presented by the prosecution. The evidence is strong and compelling to grant conviction”, he said.

The judge sentenced Oliver Anidiobi to 4 years imprisonment on counts 1-14 without an option of fine; 4 years on counts 15-17 and 8 years on counts 28-32 without an option of fine. The sentences are to run concurrently.

DAILY POST reports that the court further ruled that an estate valuer is to evaluate Anidiobi’s properties at his village, Centenary City and Premier Layout, New Artisan, Enugu.

This will help determine their value so that they can be sold and the proceeds paid in restitution to OHHA Microfinance Bank.

Primary School Teacher Gets Life Imprisonment For Defiling Five-year-old

The Jigawa State High Court sitting in Kazaure on Wednesday sentenced a primary school teacher, Makasusi Sunusi, to life imprisonment for defiling a 5-year-old pupil.

The prosecution counsel narrated that Sunusi, who was the victim’s teacher, lured the pupil and raped her in the school at Kazaure town on 4th February 2021.

He said the suspect was arrested and charged to court for the offence of rape punishable under the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014.

The prosecution presented five witnesses and tendered a medical report to prove its case.

Presiding Judge, Justice Hussaina Adamu Aliyu said the prosecution counsel had proved their case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore found the accused guilty of the offense.

She sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment for the offence of rape as prescribed by Section 3 of the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014.

Father, Grandfather Arrested For Allegedly Raping 13-yr-old Daughter

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, says it has arrested two persons, a father and a grandfather, for allegedly raping their 13-year-old daughter/granddaughter.

The command’s Spokesperson, Mr Adigun Daniel, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Osogbo on Monday, said that the suspects were arrested on Friday, upon the confession of the girl.

“The corps received a tip-off from an informant who disclosed that the girl opened up to her that the grandfather and father have been having canal knowledge of her.

“The corps immediately swung to action and arrested the father.

“Upon investigation, the girl said that her father had been canal knowledge of her since two years ago. She also said that she had been living with her maternal grandmother at the age of three before she was taken to her paternal grandfather at the age of five.

“She said that her father and mother are separated and that was why she was entrusted in the care of her grandparents at different times.

“The girl also stated that at some point, she was molested by her grandfather but she could not stick to her allegation, owing to the fact that she was still living with him,” the NSCDC spokesman said.

He, however, added that both the father and the grandfather had denied having canal knowledge of the girl.

Daniel said that the corps had given custody of the girl to the state Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, pending the conclusion of investigation on the matter.

He further stated that the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ocheja, had directed that appropriate investigation be carried out on the alleged case of incest against the victim.

The NSCDC spokesman quoted Ocheja as saying that the girl was psychologically disturbed to give a vivid account of her ordeal, adding, however, that with tact, the corps would scoop out useful information to help her.

Ocheja said that NSCDC would not condone such act in any guise, adding that the protection of underage and females was paramount to the corps.

JUST IN: Billionaire Kidnapper’s Co-defendant Dies In Custody

A co-defendant with alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, Chiemeka Arinze, has died in prison custody.

Evans is standing trial alongside, Joseph Emeka, Chiemeka Arinze and Udeme Upong, over the attempted kidnap of Chief Vincent Obianodo, the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors, before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

They are facing a seven-count charge of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, attempt to kinda, sale and transfer of firearms.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity, Chiemeka Arinze died on Friday, November 26, 2021.

The source said the counsel to the late defendant had filed a bail application before the court last week, over the illness of the defendant.

The source also said that the continuation of trial in the case is coming up today (Monday), and it was slated for the bail application to be heard before they heard of the death of the defendant.

It was gathered that Arinze, who has been sick, was rushed from the prison to a General Hospital on Friday, where he later died.
