Fans Divided Over Peter Okoye, Seun Kuti ‘War’

Published

on

Fans have continued reacting to the drama between singers, Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye of P-Square, over their support for presidential candidates in the forthcoming elections.

In an interview with a media personality, Seun Okinbaloye, Kuti had described the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as an opportunist. He also said only Nigerians could save Nigeria; not Obi, who is the choice of Peter, aka Mr P.

However, Okoye, who was not comfortable with Kuti’s statement, responded to him on Twitter. He wrote, “Dude just erased his father’s history. You said only the people of Nigeria can save Nigeria. Is Peter Obi and other candidates not Nigerians? Shame! Shame!! Shame!!!”

Not one to take such things lying low; Seun, who is a son of the late afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, made a series of posts on Instagram, accusing P-Square of campaigning for politicians. He also described Mr P as ‘talentless and a gimmick’.

He wrote, “My father invented afrobeat and you all are on the train. If not for Fela, nobody would know either of you.”

Responding, Mr P wrote, “My late father was a nobody, but today, everyone knows the Okoyes. Dude, try removing ‘Kuti’ from your name; let us know if anyone knows you. Remain in that your local shrine, while people like us and others continue excelling globally. You cannot shame the shameless.”

Meanwhile, as is to be expected in cases like this, fans have taken sides with their preferred celebs. A Twitter user, @ewatomicruise wrote, “Tribal bigotry has blinded some of you to the point of comparing P-Square to a guy whose achievement in life is his father’s name.”

On her part, @Nkemchor_ stated, “Seun Kuti, put some respect on Peter Okoye’s name. He has the balls you don’t have. At least, he has never supported the oppressors. You said you supported (Bola) Tinubu in 1999 and you regret it but there is a tweet of you in 2015 saluting him for a ‘fake change’. You lied.”

@itsshola added, “You had to disrespect Fela and talk down on his legacy, including the well known Fela shrine, just because his son, Seun, ‘carpeted’ you by stating facts? It took a little push from him for you to expose yourself.”

@uzoanderson commented, “You talk too much, and you always think you are right.

“Can you go through half of what your father (Fela) did? Lead the train first before you come out here to talk. Everybody wants to talk or feel relevant. Start the revolution or make the sacrifice. It’s not by coming here to blab.”
