FG Expresses Worry Over Poliferation Skills Trainings Centres

The Federal Government Thursday expressed concern over proliferation of skills training and qualifications institutions which produced quacks in the country.

Barr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, stated this during the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) virtual annual skills exhibition and roundtable discussion on skills assessment held in Benin the Edo state capital.

Nwajiuba said the event was aimed at quality assessment of skills, as the ministry is concerned with “proliferation of skills training and qualification produced quacks as products of Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET,”.

He observed that quality of TVET remains the bedrock of sustainable technological and social economic development of any nation, stressing that the Federal Government places high premium on quality education delivery.

The minister said in recognition of skills qualification, the ministry collaborated with relevant government functionaries and partners to develop the Nigeria Skills Qualification Frame Work (NSOF) that was approved in 2018.

He pointed out that the roundtable would chart a new course in the implementation of skills assessment and improve the quality of certification of skills for better development of the nation.

Meanwhile the Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB in her welcome address said “to ensure that quality of trainings are acquired by trainees in various skills training institutions, requires the use of valid and credible assessment measures which is currently not the case in some centres.”

This is as the NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive, said the discussion is to sensitise skill training institutions on best practices of training and assessment especially in relation to Modular Trade in and National Skills Qualification award.

She stressed the need for the nation to increase the population of skill persons in order to reduce poverty and fast-track development.

“To achieve this, massive training and certification of skill is recommended and that skills training institution should adopt valid and reliable internal assessment strategies that incorporate relevant performance assessment procedure to boost production of certified manpower”.

The NABTEB boss said “The training of adequate number of Quality Assurance Assessors (QAAs), internal Verifiers (IVs) and External Verifiers (EVs) needed to be facilitated to ensure effective delivery of the Nigerian Skills Qualification, NSQ.”

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.

Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the initiative reflects a deliberate approach to inclusive growth.

Xenophobic Attacks: Oshiomhole Tells FG To Retaliate Against South African Companies In Nigeria

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to retaliate against South African businesses operating in Nigeria following the recent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, Oshiomhole said the Federal Government should consider revoking the working license of South African owned companies such as MTN and DSTV.

He argued that Nigeria must respond firmly to what he described as persistent hostility against its citizens.

“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” Oshiomhole said.

He argued that while some South Africans accuse Nigerians of taking their jobs, Nigerians should return home and take over employment opportunities created by major South African companies operating in the country, including MTN and DSTV.

When we hit back, the President of South Africa will not only talk but will also go on his knees to recognise that Nigeria cannot be intimidated.

We will not condone any life being lost. If a crime has been committed under the South African law they have the right to bring any such person to justice, but to kill our people as if we are helpless, we will not allow that,” Oshiomhole added.
